Country Pansies

Ginger's 'Country Pansies' is an acrylic painting tutorial that brings together the best of both worlds – it is suitable for both the beginner eager to learn the basics, and the advanced artist looking to refine their skills. In this lesson, Ginger adeptly guides you through the creation of a colorful scene with rustic charm, the star of which is a cheerful gathering of country pansies displayed in a vibrant clay pot.

Let's dive in. Start with a mid-toned canvas, ideally in an ochre or light brown shade to provide a natural and warm backdrop. Then, create a loose sketch of your clay pot. Don't worry about precision here; the beauty of this painting lies in its unrefined charm. Ginger recommends a freehand sketch to promote this rustic aesthetic. Once you're satisfied with your pot, fill it with an array of pansies. Consider a palette of deep purples, sunny yellows, and warm pinks for these little flowers, making sure to create a sense of depth by layering your hues. Remember to let each layer dry before proceeding to the next to avoid muddy colors.

Throughout the tutorial, Ginger encourages you to explore your creativity. It is not about painting a perfect picture, but about capturing the essence and charm of country pansies in a clay pot. This lesson is a joyful celebration of colors and rustic simplicity, perfect for anyone eager to improve their acrylic painting skills.

Shout Out to Karen Dick

This is the BEFORE PAC painting.

"Coffee with a Hyacinth" before Personal Art Coaching (PAC).

Ovals are some of the most challenging shapes many artists find to do.

This is the AFTER PAC painting.

Here is a great example of how Personal Art Coaching can take a really nice painting,

and make it a spectacular work of art. Karen painted this on an 8x10 canvas that added another challenge for her. The original is painted on a 12x16.

Karen said...

"I'm so enjoying and grateful for the academy... and you and Jon for how you teach with attention to detail. I am reminded of something my brilliant piano teacher used to say to us students who always wanted to play expressively and emotionally. "Technique facilitates emotion." (so, of course, we were always working on technique! )

"I really like the PACs. You notice things so expertly! And you are also so very kind and encouraging. It's all appreciated.

"I am kind of a slow painter, but I love thinking about your suggestions and putting them into effect as best that I can.

"About the Coffee and Hyacinth painting specifically: I showed a friend photos of my before and after PAC. "Before" she said how nice it was. "After" she was amazed by how the change with the oval made it so much nicer! :) She didn't understand it but she could feel it."

My best to you,

Karen
