JHU Students, Faculty, and Staff Take Part in India Prime Minister State Visit
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi arrived in the U.S. for an Official State visit last week. A Joint Statement from the United States and India affirmed both countries’ commitment to enhanced collaboration on a number of strategic priorities. In preparation for Prime Minister’s visit, the Association of American Universities’ Task Force on Expanding U.S.-India Partnerships issued interim recommendations outlining strategic areas of interest for bilateral higher education collaborations. AAU’s full report is due out later this year.

The Social Insecurity Project examines how people differentially define and experience social insecurity across gender, race, and national context. The project will be launched in India, United States, and Denmark.

Anna Durbin Faculty Spotlight
Professor of International Health, Division of Global Disease Epidemiology and Control
Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins School of School of Medicine
Dr. Anna Durbin, a professor jointly appointed in International Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health and in Infectious Diseases at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, has been a part of Johns Hopkins since 1999, studying viral diseases and the early development of vaccines. Most of her research has focused on dengue, a mosquito born illness that is endemic in India.
“We’re going to see an increase in dengue cases because wherever you have a lot of people and mosquitoes in the same place, and you have a warm enough climate, you have the right environment for dengue transmission. That's what we're seeing in India.”

VAIBHAV Fellowships Programme

The Department of Science & Technology, GoI has announced that The Government has launched a new fellowship program to connect the Indian STEMM diaspora with Indian academic and R&D institutions for collaborative research work leading to sharing of knowledge, wisdom, and best practices in the frontier areas of science & technology.
The Vaishvik Bhartiya Vaigyanik (VAIBHAV) fellowships programme to be implemented by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, would be awarded to outstanding scientists / technologist of Indian origin (NRI/OCI/PIO) who are engaged in research activities in their respective countries. The 75 selected fellows would be invited to work in 18 identified knowledge verticals including quantum technology, health, pharma, electronics, agriculture, energy, computer sciences, and material sciences amongst others.

The American Institute of Indian Studies announces its 2023 fellowship competition and invites applications from scholars who wish to conduct their research in India. Junior fellowships are awarded to Ph.D. candidates to conduct research for their dissertations in India for up to eleven months. Senior fellowships are awarded to scholars who hold the Ph.D. degree for up to nine months of research in India. AIIS welcomes applicants from a wide variety of disciplines. It especially encourages applicants in fields such as Development Studies, Natural Resources Management, Public Health, and Regional Planning.
