Our team is growing! GKII has recently added two new full-time people to the team, Meghashish Sharma, and Ira Pundeer!
Meghashish Sharma joins GKII as a Program Manager based in New Delhi. His professional background is rooted in global public health and development, with a focus on health economics and health systems strengthening. He has also worked with The World Bank, Jhpiego, and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, India.
Ira Pundeer joins GKII as our first Communications Consultant based in New Delhi. Her professional background is working wth faculty and scholars developing compelling stories and multimedia to bring life to programs, research projects and events, Prior to joining GKII, Ira was the India Communications Manager at Harvard’s Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute.

GKII co-chair Dr. Amita Gupta was recently installed as the recipient of the Dr. Florence Sabin Professorship in Infectious Diseases by Theodore L. DeWeese, Interim Dean of the Medical Faculty, CEO, Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Nadia Hansel, Interim Director; Department of Medicine Professor of Medicine, Interim Physician-in-Chief, The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
We applaud her on this momentous occasion and encourage everyone to view the heartfelt messages several of Dr. Gupta's mentees provided for the event. Stay tuned for the full recording!

To celebrate the new school year, GKII hosted a fun gathering with more than 50 graduate students from India, the Indian diaspora, and any other students with an interest in India at Helmand Kabobi.
Executive Director Melody McCoy and co-chairs Amita Gupta, professor of medicine and public health and director of the division of infectious diseases, and Sara Bennett, professor and director of the health systems program, gave brief remarks covering the history of GKII and its mission, as well as current projects and efforts led by Johns Hopkins University in India.

USAID India has opened applications for funding for a project which aims to “utilize higher education institutions (HEI) to enhance the resilience of global infrastructure against disaster and climate risks by establishing a network of selected HEIs from the U.S. and India, working in collaboration with other stakeholders, to address gaps in infrastructure resilience education, training, and knowledge management.” This is in collaboration with the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure with the potential to expand to other country partnerships as well.

The American Institute of Indian Studies announces its 2023 fellowship competition and invites applications from scholars who wish to conduct their research in India. Junior fellowships are awarded to Ph.D. candidates to conduct research for their dissertations in India for up to eleven months. Senior fellowships are awarded to scholars who hold the Ph.D. degree for up to nine months of research in India. AIIS welcomes applicants from a wide variety of disciplines. It especially encourages applicants in fields such as Development Studies, Natural Resources Management, Public Health, and Regional Planning.
