Building opportunities for sustainable, affordable housing in northern Arizona.

JANUARY 2025

SPOTLIGHT

Join Housing Solutions of Northern Arizona's Director of Rental Programs in the below video as he shares an exciting milestone achieved in December 2024: our ability to provide housing for 100 households simultaneously across our various programs.

HIGHLIGHTS

Preparing Oak Wash Homes to Open

With the help of 18 amazing volunteers from Sedona Community Food Bank, Sedona Lodging Council, Knights of Columbus, Sedona Housing Coalition, and our Board of Directors, we built 34 bed frames, 32 table sets, and prepared units for future residents at Oak Wash Homes—a former motel in Cottonwood we're converting into permanent, affordable housing for households experiencing homelessness.

Volunteer of the Month

Ambika has been a dedicated Sharon’s Attic volunteer for nearly 11 years, sharing, “I came for the people, but stayed for the cause.” Her love of fashion shines through in the creative, stylish displays she curates in the women’s clothing section, piecing together outfits that our thrifters love.

Ambika takes pride in providing affordable, beautiful fashion for the community, especially to those in need. She finds joy knowing that survivors of domestic violence served by Sharon Manor, the transitional housing program supported by Sharon’s Attic, can shop for new wardrobes as they rebuild their lives.

Her growing awareness of the fashion industry’s environmental impact has also strengthened her commitment to Sharon’s Attic’s mission of keeping quality clothing in use and out of landfills. Ambika’s passion for fashion, sustainability, and helping others makes her an invaluable member of our team.

Sustainability Events at Sharon's Attic

Our thrift store, Sharon's Attic, hosted two hands-on sustainability events with support from the Flagstaff Sustainability Office! We partnered with High Style Flagstaff for "Upcycling with Custom Clothing Patches" and Threaded Together for "Repair & Rewear: A DIY Upcycling Opportunity." Follow Sharon's Attic on Facebook and Instagram for updates on future events and sales!

Sharon Manor Holiday Party

A heartfelt thank you to Rainbow's End Boutique for hosting an Angel Tree this holiday season to collect toys for the children at Sharon Manor—the kids were overjoyed! Huge thanks as well to everyone who donated holiday gift cards, allowing parents to shop for their little ones and ensuring households without children could pick out something special for themselves. Your generosity brought so much joy to our Sharon Manor families this holiday season!

Flagstaff Rental Attainability

Our 2024 Flagstaff Rental Attainability Report is now available on our website. This annual survey captures crucial insights about rental attainability in Flagstaff. This year, we surveyed 56 market-rate apartment complexes (10,381 units) and 10 income-restricted complexes (724 units) between 9/20/24 and 11/05/24.

LAST MONTH'S IMPACT

First Time Homebuyers

5 households became first time homeowners in December, improving their family's stability, thanks to down payment assistance administered by our pre-purchase program.

Sharon Manor Transitional Housing

One household transitioned from homelessness into an apartment at Sharon Manor last month. These resilient survivors of domestic violence now have access to safe and supportive housing, trauma-informed case management, group trainings, and a children's program to help them rebuild and thrive.

Affordable Rentals

24 low-income households were able to stay affordably and stably housed in our rental homes and condos across Flagstaff.

Vouchers for Essentials

6 households from Sharon Manor and 2 from our JoJo's Place transitional housing programs used a Sharon's Attic clothing and home goods voucher, allowing them to shop for essential items and furniture at our thrift store.

Community Loan Center of Arizona

107 individuals received affordable small-dollar loans through our Community Loan Center, promoting stability and helping them avoid predatory lenders.

GRATITUDES

Thank You APS Foundation

We are deeply grateful to the APS Foundation for their generous grant supporting essential infrastructure improvements at Sharon Manor. This funding allows us to continue vital projects like window and stairwell replacements, enhancing energy efficiency and ensuring safety for the families we serve. Thank you for helping us create a secure and sustainable environment for our residents!
