Riverbend Returning To WARM

From Kay Moody of Riverbend's WARM Ministry
In God’s Word, we are challenged to “go and make disciples in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria” and the Scriptures infer to the furthest outreaches of the world to proclaim His Word (Matt. 28:19-20). Have you ever stopped and asked, "Where is my Jerusalem, Judea or Samaria? Where has God called me to serve?" My Jerusalem, along with many other women of all ages, is WARM, and by God’s grace, lives are being changed at WARM.

WARM is a residential behavioral healthcare program for mothers (and their children under five) who through various means have had issues with either drug or alcohol addiction. They are, for the most part, required by the Court be in a rehab facility for about six months where they are counseled and have an opportunity to glean skills that enable them to lead a successful recovery and life. During their time at WARM, the facility provides parenting classes, employment support and a “graduation.” WARM (facilities pictured below) also assists with finding housing.

Drugs and alcohol? Well, I am not interested, you say. I understand totally, I felt the same way. But my heart was captured from the moment I began meeting the women, as they were just like my granddaughters—needing love, attention, a listening ear, a hug, kindness. God opened my heart and opened the door for me, along with many other ladies from Riverbend—many times, with their daughters, to be blessed by this ministry. It is true, you receive more than you give!
A typical Monday evening involves someone leading worship songs, Biblical teaching, as well as opportunities to meet the women and hear their stories. Many opportunities develop to encourage and pray with the women, building relationships. We meet at WARM Monday evenings around 6:15 and leave about 7:45. The stories we share as sisters in Christ on the rides to-and-from are testimonies of how God is working in these women’s lives, as well as our own.

Thankfully, Riverbend has been granted permission to return on Nov. 2 after an eight-month sabbatical due to the pandemic. But with the upcoming holidays and other circumstances, we need additional help and prayer as we re-enter His mission field. Our greatest need at the moment is someone to help with childcare, along with volunteers to come alongside and help in supporting these women.  We encourage you to come once or as many times as your heart leads you.

Our upcoming Monday (6:15 p.m.) schedule:
  • Nov 2 … Teaching (Pastor Scott Menez)
  • Nov 9 ... Thanksgiving message
  • Nov 16 … Teaching
  • Nov. 23 … Off for Thanksgiving holiday
  • Nov 30 … Teaching
  • Dec 7… Christmas Party & devotional
  • Dec. 14 ... Christmas program (Pastor Scott Menez)
  • Dec. 21 & 28 … Off for Christmas holidays
  • Jan. 4 … Resume regular weekly schedule
