Exploring Autophagy as a Therapeutic Strategy in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
|

Lung cancer is the leading cause of death in both men and women with non-small cell lung cancer accounting for more than 85 percent of these cases. Patients with co-mutations of KRAS and LKB1, which are two of the most frequent mutations detected in non-small cell lung cancer, are often resistant to standard treatment and develop aggressive tumors. ‘Jessie’ Yanxiang Guo, PhD, researcher at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, has received a $1.7 million award from the National Institutes of Health to investigate the role of a cellular survival mechanism known as autophagy in the formation of tumors driven by these mutations with the hope of exploring potential treatment for this type of lung cancer.
