Words matter. Music matters. John Perrault, former Portsmouth Poet Laureate, will bring his guitar, songs and poems to the Library in April. His presentation will celebrate the Saco River - and others that are the lifeblood of this land. All kinds of rivers - fast and slow, long and short. Rivers of poems and songs from Wordsworth to Whitman, from Dickinson to Dylan. From his own pen, too. Please join us for a most memorable evening.

Herb Gardens

This presentation is for those at any level of gardening who are interested in incorporating herbs into a new or established space or containers. You'll learn about the propagation and growing habits of readily available herbs, as well as some that are harder to find. An overview of environmental conditions necessary to grow herbs will also be discussed. The use of culinary herbs is included in this presentation, medicinal uses will not be covered.
Ann LaCroix became a UNH Extension Master Gardener in 2010. As a former biology and environmental science teacher, she enjoys continuing to share her knowledge of growing and caring for plants. When not busy in her own gardens, she manages the herb garden at the Boscawen Community Gardens.

Hamnet

Hamnet is a 2025 historical drama directed by Chloé Zhao, who co-wrote the screenplay with Maggie O'Farrell, based on the 2020 novel by O'Farrell. The film dramatises the family life of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes Hathaway as they cope with the death of their 11-year-old son Hamnet. It stars Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal as Agnes and William, alongside Emily Watson, Joe Alwyn, and Noah Jupe in supporting roles. Jessie Buckley won this year's Academy Award for Best Actress in her role as Agnes. PG-13. 126 minutes.

Wind Chimes

Brighten up your space by crafting a spring wind chime for your home. Kids will decorate a dragonfly, butterfly, or hummingbird and string chimes to make a lovely musical sound. Toddler Storytime

Celebrate Spring and join us for for stories, songs, and movement. This early literacy program is designed for 0-3 year old children, but siblings are always welcome as are slightly older children at their caregiver's discretion. We can't wait to sing and read with you!

Join us for stories, songs and crafts. Each week will feature a different theme and some wonderful books. This program is best for ages 3-6. Younger children are welcome at their caregiver's discretion.

John Sandeen
1934 - 2026
John Sandeen played a major role in helping to shape the Library into the valuable community resource it is today. He served the Library in various capacities: on the Board of Trustees, as a member and chair of several committees, and as a founding member of the Wolfeboro Public Library Foundation.
A Celebration of Life for is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 10:30am. The service will be held at the First Congregational Church in Wolfeboro, with a reception at the church immediately following the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the following local organizations that were close to John's heart:

History of the Rain by Niall Williams is a 2014 novel narrated by Plain Ruth Swain, a bedridden young woman in County Clare, Ireland, who tells the story of her family, particularly her dead poet father, through the lens of books and the constant rain outside her attic window. The book is a witty, moving, and lyrical exploration of storytelling, family history, love, and loss, blending the mundane and the magical as it recounts generations of the Swain family's struggles and triumphs, including their difficult life on a small, poor farm. It was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize and is celebrated as a love letter to literature and the Irish landscape.
