Upcoming: American Policy in the Middle East
Join THO on Wednesday May 22 as we host three distinguished experts to discuss U.S. Foreign Policy. We'll be joined by: Charles Kupchan, Professor of International Affairs at Georgetown University, Former White House Official Stephen Walt, Professor of International Affairs at Harvard University Soli Ozel, Fellow at Yale Law School.
THO Outreach
The THO team attended the ATC Summit in Washington, D.C. where leaders from the American and Turkish political and business communities gathered to discuss the latest in U.S.-Turkish relations. At the ATC Summit the THO met Pentagon Officials, State Department Officials, Turkish Officials and American and Turkish Business Leaders during the summit.
The THO team connected with Alparslan Bayraktar, President of the World Energy Council of Turkey.
Congressional outreach continued as THO President Ali Cinar met with Congressman Donald Payne, Jr. (NJ-10).

THO Recent Events
On Wednesday, April 17, 2019 the Turkish Heritage Organization (THO) hosted a panel discussion, “The Uyghurs: an Imprisonment of a People” with Omer Kanat, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the World Uyghur Congress, and former Ambassador John Herbst, the current Director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center and former foreign service officer at the U.S. State Department, moderated by THO’s Communications Manager Savannah Lane. THO President Ali Cinar Awarded 2019 Ellis Island Medal of Honors
Ali Cinar will be the youngest Turkish-American to receive this honor in over 30 years.
The Ellis Island Medal of Honor is an American award founded by the Ellis Island Honors Society (EIHS) which are presented annually to American citizens whose accomplishments in their field and inspired service to the U.S are cause for celebration. Past medalists include 7 U.S. Presidents, several world leaders, two Nobel Prize winners and countless leaders of industry, education, the arts, sports and government, along with everyday Americans who have made freedom, liberty and compassion a part of their life's work. The 34th Annual Ellis Island Medals of Honor Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2019

President Trump and Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak Discuss the Russian Missile Defense System
Turkey's plan to purchase the Russian S-400 missile system has created a rift in between the U.S. and Turkey. The Turkish Defense Minister called for issues to be resolved through dialogue.

U.S Defense Secretary Conveys “optimism” in Resolving Turkey S-400 issue 
Speaking at an event last Thursday, Acting U.S Secretary of Defense briefly expressed his optimism in resolving the ongoing issue with Turkey’s purchase of the Russian S-400 missile system. 

U.S and Turkey Working Together to Ensure Security at Syria-Turkey Border
The U.S Special Envoy to Syria, James Jeffery, will work with his Turkish counterparts to ensure boarder security following the withdrawal of U.S troops. 

Turkey Foreign Minister “sensitive” to NATO Concerns
At a joint press conference on April 19 th , Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu clarified Turkey’s position towards NATO by saying “We are always sensitive” in regards to security concerns.
