THO President Ali Cinar met with House Democratic Caucus Chair-Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) in New York.
Congressional outreach continued as THO Partnership Manager Pinar Gezgec connected with Congressman Greg Pence (IN-06).
THO Communications Manager Savannah Lane attended a TCA reception honoring former Congressman Pete Sessions and connected with former Congressman Randy Forbes and TCA members.
THO NON-RESIDENT FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Our THO Non-Resident Fellowship Cross Atlantic Exchange occurred last week where our Turkish-based fellows visited various think-tanks, NGO's, and organizations around DC to foster continued U.S-Turkey dialogue. Their meetings including: the U.S. State Department, Dr. Joshua Walker from the Eurasia Group, THO Advisory Board Member Dr. Matthew Kroenig from the Atlantic Council, Clayton Thomas from the Congressional Research Service and more!

SECURITY
NATO SECRETARY GENERAL JENS STOLTENBERG IN TURKEY
NATO Secretary Jens Stoltenberg met with Turkish President Recept Tayyip Erdogan, and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu this week to discuss the NATO alliance and the efforts to combat terrorism targeting Turkey.

SENIOR US DELEGATION VISITS TURKEY
The US special representative for Syrian engagement, James Jeffrey, and special envoy for Syria, Joel Rayburn, ended a three-day visit to Turkey on Thursday.
They met senior Turkish officials including presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin, Defence Minister Hulusi Akar and Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal.

USS ROSS CONDUCTS BILATERAL EXERCISE WITH TURKISH NAVY
 The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ross participated in maritime interoperability training and replenishment-at-sea with Turkish maritime counterparts last week in the Black Sea.

US PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP TO VISIT TURKEY
Turkish official tells Middle East Eye that visit will take place in July but final dates are still being confirmed.

LATEST FIGURES REFLECT RECORD AMOUNT OF TURKISH DEFENSE SPENDING
Turkey has increased its military spending more than any of the 15 countries that have the largest defense budgets worldwide and met the $2 Billion arms exports target last year.

NATO COMMITMENT REINFORCED FOR DEFENSE OF TURKEY
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed commitment vowing that the 29-nation alliance is committed to defending Turkey.

SC Johnson Turkey has been recognized as one of the Best Workplaces in Turkey by Great Place to Work® for the third consecutive year. 

RENEWABLE ENERGY SHARES IN TURKEY INCREASE 62%
Turkey increased its electricity production from local and renewables sources in the first quarter of 2019 to 62% compared to 48.5%.
