THO President Ali Cinar met with Senator Lindsey Graham and  Senator Cory Booker who both are members of Senate Foreign Affairs.
THO Partnership Manager Pinar Gezgec met with Congressman Tim Burchett (TN-02) during a breakfast event last week.
THO’s Research and Publications Intern, Katherine Brumund, and Research and Outreach Intern, Eda Uzunlar , connected with Congresswoman Sharice Davis, at a Young Women Run event.

THO team members attended an event with the Wilson Center on G20 and Beyond U.S.-China Tensions: What the G18 Want and Need. The event featured speakers Suman Bery, William E. Pameranz, Earl Anthony Wayne, David Ottoway, Marvin Ott, and Shihoko Goto (moderator).     
THO Research and Outreach Intern, Eda Uzunlar , attended an event on mass surveillance in China with Representative Mike Gallagher and panelists, Sarah Cook, Nury Turkel, Sophie Richardson, Emily Rauhala.
While attending the Congressional Hearing on Religious Freedom in Turkey, the THO Intern team and Senior Fellow, Ipek Ariogul , connected with Kristina Arriaga, commissioner of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom.

David Satterfield, New U.S. Ambassador to Turkey
The ambassadorship to Turkey, vacant since 2017, has finally been filled by David satterfield. The Senate confirmed President Trump’s pick late last week.

Instead of delving into further conflict with Turkey, President Trump is now considering alternate plans that could resolve the issue over the Russian S-400 missiles.

In light of the U.S. stating that Turkey had not been treated fairly in their contacts to buy defense systems, Turkish President R ecep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that the U.S will not impose sanctions over the Russian S-400 deal.

Russian Arms Deal will Result in U.S. Termination of F-35s for Turkey
Early last week, the U.S. Special Envoy to NATO, Kay Bailey Hutchison, announced that if Turkey continues with Russian deal, the United States will remove Turkey from the F-35 Fighter Jet Program.

Serdar Bulut
Serdar Bulut is a Software Engineering Manager at Facebook, a team that focuses on Data Infrastructure organization to better support and develop Facebook’s distributed messaging system. Prior to his time at Facebook, Bulut worked in a similar role at Twitter as a Senior Software Engineering Manager focused on Twitter’s online data and storage technologies. Originally from Ankara, Turkey, Bulut completed his undergraduate degree at Middle East Technical University in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Bulut then went on to earn his Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Southern Califorina before starting his successful career in the software industry.
