THO Summer Research Program: Research Presentation
On November 30 , the participants of THO's Summer Research Program will return to Washington, D.C. to present their research. The program, titled “Refugees and Turkey: A Research Symposium,” will take place at THO’s office from 11am-1pm . Their presentations will revolve around the challenges and opportunities that refugees face, and how Turkey has dealt with the refugee crisis. For more information, click here !
THO's Ambassador Series
THO’s latest program will offer the D.C. audience an opportunity to hear from various ambassadors on the issues of importance to their respective nations. On December 17, THO will host His Excellency, Ambassador Elin Suleymanov , Azerbaijan's Ambassador to the United States , for a roundtable discussion about the the trilateral relationship between Turkey, America and Azerbaijan .
Turkish Deputy Energy Minister Bayraktar to Visit November 29
On November 29, THO and the U.S.-Turkey Business Council will be hosting Turkey's Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar for a roundtable discussion at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from 11am-12pm.
US Foreign Policy in the Middle East and US-Turkey Security Relations
On December 6 , THO will be hosting a panel discussion on " US Foreign Policy in the Middle East and US-Turkey Security Relations." Dov S. Zakheim , Senior Fellow at Center for Naval Analyses, Former Department of Defense Official and other experts will be a part of the panel discussion.

FM Cavusoglu to Visit US Next Week, Hold Syria Talks
Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu will pay an official visit to the U.S. on Nov. 19-20, the Foreign Ministry announced Saturday.

According to the statement, Çavuşoğlu will take part in the 8th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) on partnerships for prevention and sustaining peace, which will be held at the U.N. headquarters in New York.

The minister will then travel to Washington to hold bilateral meetings over the current situation in Syria, the statement added.

Turkey is in close cooperation with the United States, the European Union and other parties to reduce the negative impact of U.S. sanctions on its relations with Iran, the text of a speech by Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu showed on Wednesday.

Istanbul Gastro Project Promotes Livelihoods of Refugees
The Livelihoods Innovation through Food Entrepreneurship ( LIFE project , launched in 2017, has been developing sustainable livelihoods in the food sector for refugees in  Turkey .

Although the two-year long  project ’s focus is on enhancing livelihoods among refugees, the program is also open to Turkish citizens, but provided that their numbers do not exceed the number of refugee beneficiaries.

U.S. Firm Begins Test Drilling Off Mediterranean Coast
A U.S. company is test drilling for hydrocarbon reserves along Turkey’s southern Mediterranean coast, Turkish Naval authorities announced Monday, Anadolu Agency reported.

Drilling will be conducted off of the coast of Mersin province from Nov. 14 into late January, the Turkish Naval Forces Office of Navigation, Hydrography, and Oceanography said. 

Technology
Construction of Giant Project Canal Istanbul to Begin in 2019
Turkey plans to launch the construction of the artificial sea-level waterway Canal Istanbul in 2019, the transport and infrastructure minister said.

"Construction of Canal Istanbul should not be delayed till 2020, we hopefully will start it in 2019," Cahit Turhan told Anadolu Agency (AA) in the capital Ankara.

Education
Turkey Sends Over 3 Million Textbooks to Syrians
Turkey’s National Education Ministry has sent 3.6 million textbooks to schools in northern Syria, the ministry said Thursday.

The books were delivered to a logistics center run by Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) in Choban Bayk, or also known as al-Rai, a small town in Aleppo province.
