Observed every year on October 29, Turkey’s Republic Day commemorates Mustafa Kemal’s 1923 proclamation of the Republic of Turkey. At that time, Turkey was just emerging from years of warfare and foreign occupation. Mustafa Kemal, whose fundamental belief was that “sovereignty unconditionally belongs to the people”, led a national resistance movement that culminated in the foundation of a new Turkish state.
Born of shared sacrifice and a desire for self-rule, the Republic of Turkey continues to stand for prosperity and freedom both at home and abroad. As we celebrate this day and remember those who lost their lives to ensure the safety and security of the Republic, THO wishes for the Turkish and American communities alike to recognize their shared commitment to the values represented by Republic Day. In the face of ever-changing, complex, and global challenges, it is as respectful and appreciative allies that the United States and Turkey will be best prepared to face these tests. THO will always remain committed to improving and strengthening relations between these long-time allies.
