On Thursday, December 12, 2019, the Turkish Heritage Organization hosted Dr. Joseph Nye to discuss U.S. Foreign Policy Strategy and Challenges. The discussion was moderated by Reuf Bajrovic, Co-chair of the U.S.-Europe Alliance. The discussion focused on the changes in U.S. foreign policy over the recent years. Additionally, Dr. Joseph Nye provided thoughtful remarks on recent international affairs, such as the situation in Syria, Russia's growing power, and China's rising position on the global stage.

Emre Koseoglu
graduated from Bilkent University, Political Science Public Administration in 2004, Emre holds a Master of Arts in European Union Politics and International Relations of Marmara University.
He has advanced throughout his entire career in one of the most prominent business support organizations in Turkey.
Besides his commitment to scale up the İstanbul business world global competitiveness by developing and implementing necessary interventions, he is managing project management office of the Chamber. He is responsible from designing capacity building projects for SMEs either by utilizing resources or by exploiting multi-partnered international projects awarded EU grants. His project portfolio exceeding 35.-M USD also comprises some nationally renowned projects such as Teknopark Istanbul (largest science park of southeastern Europe) and ICoC Commercialization Center.
Prior to his current role as Head of International Cooperation and Projects Unit, Emre founded and managed Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit. He has also been promoting and contributing to further engagement of Turkish SMEs to the largest R&D and Innovation Support Programme globally, Horizon 2020, by involving in TUBITAK’s Information Multiplier Network since 2014. He separately was assigned by UNDP as an independent consultant in 2018, for a project aims to increase technology use in Organized Industrial Zones.

The U.S. consulate in Istanbul celebrated on their twitter the arrival of the Transatlantic Business and Investment Council's FDI 2019 trip to Istanbul, Turkey. This trip aims at bridging the gap between European companies and local economic development organizations in the United States.

70M Passengers Chose Turkish Airlines in 2019
|
Turkish Airlines saw a 7% increase in passengers in 2019, as the airlines served 68.8 million passengers. The company’s chairman said they have a set target of 120 million passengers by 2023, as an upward trend in tourism brings more traffic to the country.

Turkish Cities Experience Travel and Tourism GDP Growth
|
According to a World Travel and Tourism Council report, two Turkish cities have recorded the fastest direct travel and tourism GDP growth in the world in 2019. As cited in the report, "This reflects the continued recovery of Turkish travel and tourism, driven by safety improvements and the depreciation of its currency, making the country more attractive to foreign visitors."

Turkey Exports of Leather Goods Reached $1.6 Billion
|
During 2019, Turkey reached $1.6 billion in exports of leather goods, selling footwear to 186 countries and other leather products to 202 destinations. Their goal is to surpass $2 billion in 2020.

New Joint Training Center Opens in Croatia
|
Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, and Slovenia jointly opened the Multinational Special Aviation Programme at a ceremony in Zadar, Croatia on Wednesday (11 December 2019). The training center is dedicated to training aircrews responsible for transporting Special Operations Forces.

NATO Secretary-General met with EU High Representative
|
Last week NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg met with the new EU High Representative, Joseph Borrell. During the meeting, the two sides celebrated the unprecedented progress in NATO-EU cooperation that occurred in 2019.

The Congressional Research Service recently released a report titled "Turkey, the PKK, and U.S. Involvement: A Chronology." Proving a look at Turkey's decades-long struggle with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (Kurdish acronym PKK), which has fostered both cooperation and contention between the United States and Turkey.
