Today as we celebrate President's Day here in the U.S. we also want to take a moment to reflect on history. 2019 marks 65 years since the first Presidential visit from Turkey to the U.S.
Following President Eisenhower's visit to Turkey in 1953, Turkish President Celal Bayar arrived in New York on January 27, 1954 as part of the first ever Presidential Visit from Turkey to the U.S.
President Eisenhower sent the Presidential plane to bring Bayars from New York to Washington, D.C.
In addition to New York and Washington D.C. President Celal Bayar also visited Midwestern cities Cleveland,Ohio (February 2, 1954), Chicago, Illinois (February 3, 1954) and Whiting, Indiana (February 6, 1954).
Since these initial visits in 1953 and 1954, many other Presidential visits and exchanges have occurred between the two Nato Allies Turkey and the United States in the following years.
