We are kicking off our first blog post with this feature of Smith Black Business Association co-chairs, Victoria and Adam. The purpose of this space is to create content written by Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour Students (QTBIPOC) to empower QTBIPOC student communities and provide a platform to celebrate their identities. Our goal is for students to share experiences of navigating society in an unfiltered way. Blog posts will offer students a sense of validation and belonging. Read about the SBBA and how they support Black students.

MEET THE NEW YELLOW HOUSE
ADMIN ASSISTANT, JADE!

Meet our new addition to the Yellow House team:
We are excited to announce that Yellow House has a new Departmental Assistant! Welcome, Jade Kaloudas Corbiere! Jade has first-hand experiences with the many ways that oppression manifests itself in the daily life of QTBIPoC students in the Queen’s community, and her goal is to dismantle these structures to create safe and supportive spaces. Jade loves working with students, and is inspired to build networks of hope and solidarity among QTBIPoC communities.
Jade is of Ojibway and settler descent and has travelled extensively in Northern Ontario communities and around the world. This has given her an in-depth and personal understanding of the multiple ways that colonialism creates significant barriers to education and success for marginalized communities.
In her spare time, you can find Jade working on art projects for her small business Made By Jade Co. or chasing her cat through the small jungle of house plants she calls home. Learn more on our Meet the Team page.

We had a blast at our last Fresh Food box event, Cooking with Queers, featuring Knifey Spooney, through a collaboration with Health Promotions! A big thank you to all participants who cooked with us.
We have another Fresh Food Box collaboration coming up on March 31 that will feature a Halal-friendly recipe chosen by QUMSA. Stay tuned for registration!

Are you a queer and/or trans student looking for a place to study? On Wednesdays in March and April from 12-4 come study and quietly socialize in the new weekly queer study space! Drop in to the SEO Lounge in the JDUC (room 111), no registration required, sign in required upon arrival (proof of vaccine, and Secure App will be checked). We will have snacks, printed resources, and colouring sheets available! |

QTBIPoC Art Hive: Empowerment Theme |
Come make art and celebrate your identity! Join us at the AGNES Etherington Art Centre on March 24th from 7-8:30 pm for an art-making session focused on identity and empowerment. This session will be facilitated by a queer art therapist and is bound to be a creative and fun time! Stay tuned on our social for registration.

Maha is a recent graduate from the Queen's Gender Studies master's program, and currently works as the OPIRG Kingston Coordinator. In 2020, she started working on the queer muslim resistance podcast, a project that features guests - mostly queer muslims, but not exclusively - who are invested in working towards our collective liberation in an anti-capitalist, anti-colonial way.
