The Laws of Life: The Law of Confidence
An African American teenager in the late 1930’s, living in a poor family, wearing used clothes, grew weary of being the one getting the charity at school…quit school with shame and embarrassment. When he was old enough, he joined the army. Instead of cashing his check, he sent it home to his mother to take care of his siblings…one of which he put through college and went on to become an influential pastor who marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The distraught teenager became a man, picked up numerous skills, put himself through college, became one of the first African American Police Officers in a racially divided city, opened several businesses, purchased large and small real estate, became a board member of a major credit union…and the list goes on. This teenager also grew up and had a family…and I am his middle child. Welcome to the Law of Confidence:
The Law of Confidence
Confidence is very different from arrogance (Inflating yourself over others, false estimation of yourself), and it describes a calm assurance that has a substantial basis and can help you move forward…even in the face of fear, risk, and danger! Confidence is based on the progressive awareness of who you are! Referencing the above true story, my father exuded a confidence that developed over his lifetime which impacted everyone he encountered, especially his family. I watched him move calmly move forward in a variety of conditions.
· Arrogance will destroy your life, confidence will build your life, learn the difference between the two. Confidence is fostered out of faith, trust, and experience, and is like the proverbial Thor’s mighty hammer in your life. It’s been within you for many years, for without it you could have never learned to walk and talk, nor accomplish anything. What type of foundation does your life operate upon?
· Confidence is anchored in your belief system which reverberates throughout every area of your life. Your belief system must have its basis in something real, especially in a world where danger and trepidation are increasing exponentially. You must possess something within that is tried and true.
· The accomplishment of great things in your life often involves what is novel, which you aren’t sure you can accomplish because this embodies what you have never achieved before. If you are on the road of accomplishment, ahead of you is a trajectory filled with uncertainty. Confidence, therefore, must become a way of life.
I’m looking to support leaders who will navigate this world and are determined to have a positive impact on everyone and everything. Mental paralysis while being overrun with fear and timidity also has its price, and far too many are on this road. Arise to your highest aspirations, dreams, desires, and vision and march forth! You are following the footsteps of the authentic giants of history.
Good Success,
Roger
