The Laws of Life: The Law of Conviction
Approximately 25 years ago, I sat in the office with the owner of a business who was referred by a neighboring business owner. My training as a financial advisor was to ask important questions to ensure that the client was properly taken care of.
He was evasive with my direct questions, but he wanted to invest an astronomical amount of cash; so much so that it would have sent my commissions and my business into another echelon of success much earlier. But for the type of business he had, the money didn’t make sense, there was cash everywhere. He seemed anxious to move forward. I packed my briefcase, politely told him that I couldn’t help him…and walked out and never called him again. Welcome to the Law of Conviction…
The Law of Conviction
The Law of Conviction describes the internal regulator in your life that communicates with you from deep within that governs your values, morals, and many of your actions. While many pontificate about their values and faith while their lives are misaligned with their words; your convictions help align your intentions with what you absolutely will and will not do. In the scenario above, I could not take on this guy as a client because my conviction told me that even though the money was enticing…something wasn’t right.
· Your convictions are shaped by your upbringing, what you were taught, your maturity, your perspective of life, and the overall health of your heart (seat of emotions, mind, reasoning, and more). Your convictions are reinforced by your lifestyle, associations, experiences, and growth.
· Your convictions cannot be compromised, because if they are you will lose yourself on the boisterous seas of life. What we stand for is our contribution to our families, communities, our nation, and ultimately the world. This is because our convictions do not attempt to dance to the tune of what is prevalent or even enticing to our desires.
· This does not mean that we endeavor to impose our convictions on everyone else; however, our convictions are powerful and carry significant influence because they point to the source of our faith, and the direction of true north. When our hearts and lives are healthy, we become such an inspiration to others without saying a word until we are invited to. Takeaway: Always take care of yourself!
Now more than ever we need authentic people to step up to the plate of life and live fully. Your live, your contribution, your light not only matters…but essential to the rest of us! Embrace your path with joy.
Good Success,
Roger
