The Laws of Life: The Law of Relationships (Part II)
One of the greatest determinants of the outcomes of each of our lives are the level and quality of relationships in which we are engaged. No one can effectively live life alone, so deeper intentionality regarding your relationships is a sagacious move. Following is a repeat of the Law of Relationships from Part 1:
The Law of Relationships (Part II)
Relationships are sentient entities that are created through the power of mutual agreement. Relationships function best when fulfilling purpose and are either helpful, harmful, or inept. Relationships can be transformed subject to the alignment of intentions of all involved parties.
· Defining each relationship in your life would be extremely helpful. Is this an acquaintance around a mutual interest? Is it a relationship where you enjoy doing fun things together? Is it a support relationship for difficult times so you don’t stand alone? Is this person in your inner circle that you trust implicitly? Is the nature of the relationship considered mutual or is it one-sided?
· Is the relationship growing or stagnant? How much does the relationship matter mutually? What plans do you have for strengthening the relationship? If you ignore these questions, the day may come when your life depends upon the relationship, and it could fail you at the time you need it most. If the relationship has no value at all what are you going to do about it? (A decision must be made!)
· Is the relationship beneficial, harmful, or inept? When you begin to weigh relationships this way, you might need to do some relational house cleaning. If you value your life you can’t afford to waste your time on a harmful or inept relationships. Honesty in relationships include being straight forward about walking away from them when appropriate. Also remember that life changes and what was useful 10 years ago might be different today.
