Dear Leadership Visalia Alumni,

Happy New Year—as we step into the new year, January is a time to reflect, refocus, and set new goals. We’re excited to build on last year’s momentum and look ahead to new opportunities for leadership, growth, and impact in the months ahead.

Inside Visalia’s Economic Ecosystem:

The 2026 Leadership Visalia class, presented by The Naxon Group spent December exploring Economic Development and its impact on our community. The Day Session began at Able Inc., where participants learned how personalized job training supports meaningful employment for adults with disabilities, followed by an overview of Visalia’s economic landscape from VEDC Executive Director Bruce Nicotero. The class engaged in panel discussions with leaders from Able Inc., College of the Sequoias, ServiceMaster by Benevento, Kaweah Health, and the City of Visalia, gaining insight into workforce development, talent needs, and industry collaboration. The day concluded at Soccer City 1852 Brewing with a tour and discussion on entrepreneurship, highlighting how innovation and partnership drive Visalia’s economic growth.

Leading Through Difficult Conversations:

The December Afternoon Session focused on Conflict Management and Difficult Conversations, equipping participants with tools to navigate challenging conversations with confidence and empathy. The group was led by Dedi Somavia, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for the Tulare County Office of Education. The interactive session encouraged thoughtful discussion and provided strategies participants can apply in both professional and personal settings.

What year did you graduate from Leadership Visalia?

2017/2018

Where do you currently work and what is your role?

I am the Promotions & Marketing Director for Spirit Radio. I am also a On-Air Host on Saturday and Sundays, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

How has Leadership Visalia impacted your personal or professional life?

It helped me connect with our community in a greater way. From understanding city planning to local education, it expanded my knowledge in all the best ways. I have always had a love for the valley, but this definitely amplified it. In a professional sense, it grew my network greatly, introduced me not just to future business partners, but to genuine connections that have lasted to this day.

What is one leadership lesson or moment that has stuck with you since the program?

Our retreat was not at all what I expected in the all the best ways. We got to know each other and were very open about what we wanted out of the program or even share what we were nervous about. No one came in acting like they knew it all, we were a group of people that loved our community and wanted to gain skills to not just better ourselves but our workplaces.

What are you most passionate about in your career or community work?

The slogan of Spirit Radio is "Bringing Hope to the Valley". And it is something that I resonate with deeply. In a time where we seem to be more polarized than ever, I have found through my career, that there are more stories of hope that we realize. It's amazing to work for a place like Spirit Radio where we get the chance to share hope 24/7, 365 days a year. That includes using our platform to share stories from our fellow community members of hope, redemption, and more.

What advice would you give someone thinking about joining Leadership Visalia?

If you are in the place where you are considering it, that means it's time for you to do it. It is a commitment, and there are days where you will ask yourself, "I SIGNED UP FOR THIS?!", but once you do it, you realize how truly impactful it is.

What’s something fun or unexpected that people might not know about you? (Hidden talent, favorite hobby, etc.)

I once made Denzel Washington laugh. And I will share that story if we ever meet. I also love movies, one of my happy places is at Galaxy Theaters!

We invite you to support a member of our
Leadership Visalia Alumni community.
