The League for People with Disabilities is committed to offering individuals the opportunity to gain independence, to increase self-sufficiency, and to improve the quality of life.
My League Story, Employment Services: Autumn B.
Observed each October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) celebrates the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities past and present and showcases supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices that benefit employers and employees. On October 27th, Autumn will be celebrating her four-year "workaversary" with Chick-fil-A and she is looking forward to adding customer service skills to her resume. Participating in The League's Employment Services Program has helped Autumn achieve her desired level of independence and given her a second family of supporters and co-workers. | At 28 years old, Autumn has struck a healthy and rewarding work-life balance. Her father drops her off in the mornings for her shifts at the White Marsh Chick-fil-A on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. After Autumn clocks in, she cleans and tidies the recently renovated and expanded interior space of the restaurant. Autumn has been receiving training on the cash register and hopes to one day service customers in the drive-thru.
While Autumn is happy to work the occasional Friday, she reserves her Saturdays for the bowling alley. In addition to bowling on a recreational team, Autumn also helps coach a cheerleading squad twice a week at her local middle school. When she has some free time, Autumn likes to crochet hats and blankets for her friends and family members and take care of her one-year old dog Max.
| "My co-workers and supervisor are like my family. Everyone really looks out for me." | The League is extremely proud of Autumn's commitment to her personal and professional goals. Autumn's support counselors and job coaches are pleased with her progress and are eager to support her as she learns new skills in the industry. Because Autumn is able to contribute her earnings to her household's financial responsibilities, she feels valued and empowered. | |

From September 25th-29th, staff and participants of the Adult Medical Day Program celebrated Medical Day Week with five days of fun wardrobe choices and activities!
Recurring giving is one of the simplest ways to stay engaged with The League. If you join the GEM (Give Every Month) Club, not only will you be continuously supporting social interaction, skill-building, and advocacy efforts for individuals with disabilities, but you will also receive exclusive League news updates and opportunities for interaction with the adults and youth that we support. For $20 a month, you can help cover the cost of pancake banquets, wacky dance parties, and game days for our participants.

The League is an Employer of Choice!
The League celebrated Employee Appreciation Week from September 11th-16th. On Monday, staff started their day off with breakfast from Iron Rooster. On Tuesday, employees could sign up for facials, massages, meditation, and adaptive strength training from BMORE Adaptive Training at PUSH511 Fitness. On Wednesday, everyone received an insulated tote filled with snacks and beverages. On Thursday, our staff members went on a virtual Photo Scavenger Hunt, delighting us with their enthusiasm and creativity. On Friday afternoon, First Financial Federal Credit Union sponsored a visit from Kona Ice Truck!
Our volunteers are THE BEST! Earlier in September, the incredible ladies from Sisterhood TU helped participants in our Adult Medical Day Program paint our brand new Little Free Library. On September 21st, our super handy volunteer Bill DeLauder installed the colorful bookcase for everyone to enjoy in the garden!
Group partnerships are important just as important as individual volunteers to the vitality of our programs because between their efforts, amazing things can happen. If your group is interested in volunteering at The League, please reach out to Kait Wieler, Volunteer Coordinator, at kwieler@leagueforpeople.org.

Fall Fashion at The League's Storefront
|
Fall is the season of layering. When the morning chill burns off with the afternoon sun, you need that one piece of clothing that satisfies that typical Maryland weather. What better way to dress comfortably than with a lightweight League triblend hoodie? You will be prompted to set up a username and password to access the Storefront and can have your purchases mailed directly to you or shipped to The League’s main campus at Cold Spring Lane for pick up for no additional cost.

Take Our Stakeholder Survey!
A Concluding Note from Our President & CEO
Dear Friends of The League,
This October, The League is running on pumpkin spice and everything nice! Participants, employees, and volunteers are learning, growing, and thriving together on our Cold Spring Lane Campus, at our Towson location, and in the surrounding communities. As we enjoy the last remnants of warm weather, I cannot believe that October is here and Halloween is right around the corner!
Spookily enough, October's CLUB1111 for this Saturday, 10/14, has sold out and I cannot wait to see all of our guests doing the Monster Mash in their costumes! If you'd like to see what last October's CLUB1111 looked like, check out our Showcase Video!
Each of the meaningful connections and opportunities for growth in our programs are made possible by incredible individuals like you. As we kick off our League Fund Year-End Campaign, I hope you will consider contributing to the independence, self-sufficiency, and quality of life that our participants deserve! If you have not already done so, I encourage you to take our quick Stakeholder Survey! Thank you and Happy Spooky Season!
