Vol. 22 August 2018
MSA Field Update
August has been a busy month this year and you may have noticed the MSA truck out and about with field crews carrying out our electrofishing program and temperature surveys for our cold-water habitat restoration program. Electrofishing began the first week of August and 20 sites have been surveyed so far to assess spring stocking success and the success of beaver dam removal from the fall program of 2017. Almost all of the sites above beaver dams removed last year contain fry, and all sites surveyed that were stocked earlier this year have contained fry. Field technicians will continue to electrofish into September by helping DFO conduct their annual juvenile assessments.
CAST Update
The CAST crew has started doing habitat surveying in the Northwest Miramichi. This involves mapping habitat ( e.g.,  pools, riffles, runs, etc.) and substrate (e.g.,   sand, cobble, boulder). Later in August crews will return to selected sites for more detailed habitat work ( e.g., Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen, pH, and Velocity). This will give researchers a better understanding of the kinds of habitat salmon seek throughout the summer months.
Fredericton Dinner
The Miramichi Salmon Association is holding its 23 rd  Annual Fredericton Conservation Dinner on  Tuesday September 18 th , 2018  at the Fredericton Inn and this year we will be honouring Dr. Rick Cunjak – a great supporter of salmon conservation and the MSA. We invite you to come out and enjoy a wonderful prime rib dinner, participate in a scotch tasting, or simply enjoy our raffles and auctions. Corporate tables are also available. Be sure to also check out our Saint John Dinner in our Upcoming Events!
Thank you for your submissions!
This years 3rd Annual Photo Contest has been one of our most successful yet. We received almost 100 entries from across the four categories of Angling, Scenes, People and Kids! The photos have been sent to the judges, and though it will be a hard choice, they will release the winners in each category within the next few weeks. We here at MSA would like to thank everyone who submitted photos for sharing your passion and stories with us!
