In this newsletter, you will find information on notices, closures and maintenance. All dates and times are tentative and subject to change.

March 10: The Legacy Trail, Oscar Scherer State Park

In partnership with Friends of The Legacy Trail, contractors will be installing two interpretive frame frames along The Legacy Trail within Oscar Scherer State Park. The interpretive frames will highlight two ecosystems that are along the trail. Trail users will be able to scan the QR codes to learn more about the plants and animals that live there.

March 11: The Legacy Trail

Sarasota County contractors will be performing tree removal work along the trail, south of Wilkinson Road. Intermittent closures may occur. Please go slow and use caution.

March 20 and April 17: Osprey Junction Trailhead

The Friends of Osprey Junction is presenting a new music series at the Osprey Junction Trailhead Visitor Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. On March 20, the flute and piano will welcome spring. April 17, enjoy Mountain Music with the mandolin and autoharp.

March 23 and March 29: The Legacy Trail and Venetian Waterway Park

Two different organized bike ride events will be using The Legacy Trail, Venetian Waterway Park and Osprey Junction Trailhead. Please remember to share the trail.

March 26-28: McIntosh Parking Lot Closure

McIntosh Road Parking Lot will be closed for some well-needed maintenance. New parking stops, kiosk, grading, pressure washing, tree trimming and more! Please use Culverhouse Nature Park at 7301 McIntosh Road for parking or visit SarasotaCountyParks.com/LegacyTrail to find alternative trailheads. 

Now through Spring 2025: The Legacy Trail - Intermittent Trail Closures

The Florida Department of Transportation construction of the pedestrian overpasses at Clark Road and Bee Ridge Road are moving closer to completion. There will be unannounced trail closures in the area with no detour available. Motorists can expect overnight detours to tentatively start on March 31 on Clark Road to accommodate the installation of the structural beam and overhead work, which will continue through April. Additional overnight detour work is expected in mid-March for overhead bridge construction operations over Bee Ridge Road. Now through April 16: Surrey Rides out of Laurel Park/Sandra Sims Terry Community Center

Get out and enjoy The Legacy Trail on our canopy-covered, four-passenger surrey! Led by Sarasota County volunteers, the 45-minute round-trip tour provides a leisurely way to explore the trail with family or friends. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon. Request your spot today at SarasotaCountyParks.com/rides.

Now through April 17: Pedicab Rides out of Osprey Junction Trailhead

Sit back, relax and learn about the area's natural and historical significance with a 45-minute round-trip ride on The Legacy Trail. The pedicab is a two-person, canopy-covered carriage powered by one dedicated Sarasota County volunteer pedaling a bicycle. Thursdays at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon. Request your spot today at SarasotaCountyParks.com/rides.

Now through April 17: Osprey Junction Trailhead Visitor Center

The Osprey Junction Trailhead Visitor Center is open again on Thursdays, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by to chat with volunteers and learn about Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources.
