Hello Rick and Maria,

During our 20th Year Celebration in 2024, we found ourselves diving into all the stories, ideas, people, and traditions that make up the past, present and future of the Zentangle Method.

Out of these conversations came The Legends of Zentangle: The Tales and Tangles behind the Method, our theme for 2025.

Throughout this year, we will journey through these legends with a series of blogs, newsletters, project packs and The Legends of Zentangle collections.

One of our earliest additions to the Zentangle Method was the twenty-sided die and accompanying legend card. This was added as a way to eliminate the roadblock of not knowing what to tangle next and to inspire challenges and ideas. For years this was a staple in our original kit. In 2020 we created Project Pack No.10 around the theme and this year we continue the story of Zentangle Legend with The Legends of Zentangle Collection Box. This box is complete with the first installment of the series, The Legend of Lady Aura.

This first installment in the series, originally released last fall, includes a collection box, Lady Aura themed story and legend cards.

The Legends of Zentangle Collections are created to inspire you to create your own Zentangle story and traditions, and most importantly...tangled artwork. By taking the Zentangle practice offline and inspiring you to create your own Zentangle prompts, the collections will challenge you, encourage you to work outside of the box and embrace the elegance of limits, all while taking a deeper dive into some of the legendary stories behind the Zentangle Method.

One of the first techniques you probably learned when being introduced to the Zentangle Method is aura.

An aura is a simple line drawn equidistant to another line in a tangle. The newly drawn line mimics or responds to the characteristics of the previous one, much like a halo or ripples in a pond. Drawing auras is a beautiful meditative practice and leads to unexpected results. Once you learn how to aura, you will find yourself using it as a skill in other tangles, tangleations and as a tanglenhancer.

In your journal, dedicate a page to aura. Adding a string over the entire page with many different sections to tangle allows you to revisit this exercise more than once.

  1. Tangles that use aura as part of its composition
  2. Add auras to tangles that don't typically incorporate this technique
  3. If you have the Legend of Lady Aura legend, use that to help pick tangles.

If you are need some aura inspiration, you can visit the videos from Zentangle Project Pack No. 24: crescent moon.
