SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

First Middle School Dance for 6th-8th Grades
Friday, September 22 at 7:00-9:30pm
La Entrada  dances  are school events and all school rules apply, including the dress code.  If your student plans to attend  dances , make sure their attire meets our criteria. Gum chewing is not allowed.  We also expect our students to  dance  appropriately and refrain from  suggestive dance moves.  Da nces are privileges; we hope that all students meet dance expectations so that they can continue to enjoy them. Our Middle School Dance rules and procedures are published in our La Entrada handbook and are available HERE. Please review them with your student prior to the dance. They can also be found in the Student Planner.

The Associated Student Body leaders will sell tickets this Wednesday and  Thursday for $5.00 and  Friday for $6.00 during lunch. Students must present a signed permission slip in order to be able to purchase a ticket. Permission slips are available from Core Teachers or the office.  No dance tickets will be sold at the door.  IMPORTANT:  If your student purchases a ticket but is unable to attend, please email Sonya Dineen to ensure that all chaperones will know not to expect him or her at the dance.

Chaperones are mandatory.
Parents and staff working as chaperones are very important and make dances feasible. To volunteer, contact ASB Teacher  Teagan Webster. T wo shifts are available:
  • 7:00-8:30pm
  • 8:30-9:30pm
Chaperone sign in and duties are outlined in the Chaperone Binder located in the MUR.

Homework Center is now open on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays in the library from  3:00pm-3:40pm. Late buses will be available for students to ride following H/W Center.

DC Trip
The DC trip is in transition this year. The trip is now clearly defined as a non-school affiliated event and will be run by an outside company - Apple Tours.  8th Grade Families are invited to attend an information session about the DC Trip on  Wednesday, September 27 at 6pm in the MUR. If you are unable to attend the meeting or have other questions, please contact  Yuval Bauman to find out how to register for the trip.

Access Points to La Entrada Campus
Just a reminder to all of you, access to the La Entrada field through the Phillips Brooks School is not allowed. The gates from Phillips Brooks to the back of the LE field will be closed from  7:30am until approximately  3:30pm. This is to ensure the safety of students on both campuses.

Drop off and Pick up
If you are on campus during school hours, you must sign in at the main office to receive a visitor badge. Adults are to drop off/pick up students at the front of the school or at the end of the Eucalyptus Grove pathway by the District Office. Adults should not be on our field during school hours ( 8:00am-2:50pm).

If you are driving to the front of the school for drop off/pick up, please honor the parking regulations. Drivers should not park their car in non-spaces and/or abandon their cars to search for their students or stop in quickly at the office during drop off/pick up times. Please do not park along red curbs due to fire lane safety guidelines and regulations.

LAS LOMITAS EDUCATION FOUNDATION

Annual Giving Campaign is LIVE!  Donate or Pledge Today!
Have you noticed your child's small class sizes? Or their amazing specialist classes like PE, art, music and technology? What about the rich electives in 6th-8th grades? These are the amazing "gifts" you give your children through your financial support of the Las Lomitas Education Foundation.

The Foundation's Annual Giving Campaign is the mission-critical fundraising effort, directly supporting the LLESD's operating budget to ensure educational excellence in our schools.  Donate or pledge today to support:
  • Small class sizes led by exceptional teachers
  • Enhanced programs to spark deeper engagement and grow the whole child
  • Education excellence to promote 21st Century learning
If we all donate what is meaningful and significant to our families, we can bridge the  $2,000 per student funding gap between what we receive from public funding sources, and what it actually costs to provide an excellent education to our children.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Safe Routes
Have you held your breath watching a child bike to school? Have you ever told your own child that he or she could not walk or bike to school because it was too unsafe, or know a parent who has? Now is the time to make a difference! Parents for Safe Routes is a Menlo Park-based group of dedicated families and neighbors committed to making our schools as walkable and bikeable as possible. We also support carpooling and busing to reduce the number of cars on the road. We're working with local schools, municipal leaders and community members to build a strategic partnership that is focused on improving the culture of transportation in our community.

The LLESD administration has fully supported these efforts at La Entrada-- they've added bus stops, installed a bike path, and worked to get safer signals for crossing Alameda de las Pulgas. However there's still plenty of work to be done. If you'd like more information on our community-wide efforts, have a specific concern about a ped/bike route to La Entrada, or are interested in volunteering during our Parking Lot Safety campaigns throughout the school year, please contact La Entrada parent  Hilary  Stevenson .

Donate: Halloween Costume Drive
Please help the families of Haven House Family Shelter have a great Halloween week, participating in their school and many other Halloween events, by donating new or gently used costumes in all sizes (infant through adult). The Girl Scout troops of Las Lomitas and La Entrada are working together with Suzanne Mitchell (LLESD Technology Director) to collect costumes at both schools. (The bins will be out at both schools from October 9 - October 20.)

Haven House, part of Innvision/Shelter Network, offers emergency and transitional housing for homeless families. Each night almost 100 kids (infants to teens) call the shelter home while their parents are working to move them back to permanent housing. Your donation of Halloween costumes will allow these families to participate in the fun of the season at a very difficult time in  their lives.
