Six years ago, our founder, Tom Martin, was struggling to find something that would make him happy and also make a difference in the world when he came upon this StoryCorps video.

It tells the story of a migrant farm worker named Storm Reyes, who was just twelve years old when a visit from a bookmobile changed her life forever.

Community is Key!

While our mission is to improve literacy access, the best part of the job is immersing ourselves in the community. We love meeting new community members like Shirley, a Rutgers-Camden student who just moved here from Paraguay, as much as we love seeing familiar faces like Manuela's when she picked up a copy of The Great Gatsby.

Our Pop-Up Libraries at Cathedral Kitchen, Walter Rand Transportation Center, and Atlantic & Broadway are a great way to get books in people's hands, but just as importantly, they foster community as we welcome all passersby with warmth and kindness. Stop by and see for yourself (or become a Pop-Up Librarian!) There are so many ways to get involved and support the communities we serve.
