January 2021: New Task Group Interest
By Jim Thompson
We have two task groups operating at the moment and are looking at adding a third. This one will be focused on general arrangements in pulp and paper mills. In other words, where are various unit ops, control rooms, motor control centers, maintenance shops and so forth located relative to each other?
We know what has happened for many years--the engineers go to the files on the last project and pull the GA drawings from there as a basis from which to start.
We have a grander vision here at the Light Green Machine Institute. Like Walter Gropius with the Bauhaus Movement or Frank Lloyd Wright with the Prairie School of architecture, we believe pulp and paper industrial facilities for the 21st century need a complete rethinking focusing on these principles: Safety, Efficiency and Human Interface.
It won't do to continuously pull the same old drawings out of the files and update them a bit.
