We continue our Summer of Love worship series this month. Depending on the translation, the Bible mentions love anywhere from 400 to almost 800 times (King James – 442 times / New Living Translation – 759 times).
Whatever the version, love is an important Biblical concept.
We hear everything from:
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” – Deuteronomy 6:5
to
“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” – 1 Corinthians 13: 7
Love is the topic of songs, poems, books, movies, art. It is said that love is the “universal language”. For something so foundational to who we are as human beings, why do we often struggle with it? Why does there seem to be a lack of love, goodwill and charity to others in our world?
Let’s continue to question our assumptions about this basic human emotion and continue to building a beloved community together! To that end, join us for Vacation Bible School August 1st-5th, Food Truck Night on Wednesday, August 10th, Blessing of the Backpacks on August 21st, and our last summer Courtyard Worship on August 28th! See you then!

Positive Change in a Home and Family
The home we are building in partnership with Habitat for Humanity has come a long way. Our house is in the center and has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The ranch house on the right has two bedrooms and one bath and will be wheelchair accessible.
It won’t be long before our future Habitat homeowner, Alexandria, moves into her home with her three young children. Like her new home, Alexandria has also come a long way in her journey. She worked very hard to become qualified to purchase a Habitat home. This single mother and her family have struggled with the constant price increases on their current rental unit. Her rental is in need of repairs and has issues such as mold and bad plumbing. Their current apartment also has no central heat or air conditioning. After exploring options to purchase a home on the open market in Denver, Alexandria realized her goal was previously unattainable. She felt forced in to an unstable rental market or potentially moving her family in with other friends. Now her dream of becoming a homeowner gets closer each day.
For her, the most important part of becoming a homeowner is stability. She shares “we need a place that we can stay and learn and grow.” Alexandria is looking forward to providing enough space for her children to foster a positive life balance and to offering a separate bedroom for her daughter to have privacy from her younger brothers. Alexandria shares that she is “most excited about decorating my children’s rooms, and I can’t wait to see their faces when they finally have their own space!”
You still have an opportunity to help future homeowners like Alexandria. The following date has already been reserved for us. Sandi and Jimbo have already registered, and a few other church members have expressed interest too. Mark your calendars and sign up soon!!
o Sat., Aug. 20 from 7:45 AM – 3:30 PM
Note: If you would prefer to work a different day, please contact Carol Nelson, and I will see what I can do!
For more information about Habitat, contact Carol Nelson at 303.810.4635 or at customtrainingllc@q.com. I’d love to hear from you!!

There are lots of ways that you can offer your gifts in service to our congregation – looking for a way to be more involved at WPUMC? Here are a few opportunities:
*Ushering – online or in-person! We schedule individuals for a specific Sunday a month for their ushering “shift”. Online ushering doesn’t require you to be in the building, but to engage with online worship participants. In-person ushering requires your presence, and includes greeting people and helping with offering and communion. Email Rev. Sandi at pastor@washparkumc.org.
*New Baby Meal Team - Volunteers Needed!
Wash Park United Methodist Church and Preschool are organizing a team of meal providers from our church and preschool communities that would be willing to offer meals to preschool families that are welcoming new babies into their home. All of you know that when a new baby arrives, life can get hectic. We'd like to make sure that all of our families with new babies feel supported and cared for with the delivery of a meal or two. If you are interested in joining this team to provide meals--please contact Rev. Sandi at pastor@washparkumc.org.
*Sunday Morning Liturgist! If you’d like to help offer a greeting to our worship participants, lead the call to worship and read the scripture, email Rev. Sandi at pastor@washparkumc.org.
There are lots of other ways to volunteer at WPUMC – if there is something specific you’d like to share, or if you are interested in a certain area of leadership, please contact Rev. Sandi at pastor@washparkumc.org.

Leap Dance Studio
On Aug. 1, 2021, Leap Dance Studio began their lease here at WPUMC. Prior to being in our building, Elizabeth Ellis, Leap Dance Studio Business Owner, had locations around the Denver Metro area. As with many in person activities, COVID caused the business model to change and be primarily online. As luck would have it, when the time came to open doors for in person classes, we had open studio space that seemed to be a great fit for Leap! After a couple coats of paint, installing mirrors and new specialty flooring, the studio was opened to dancers last September. WPUMC is just one of four studio locations that Leap occupies.
Miss Elizabeth started Leap Dance Studio in 2010 and has been teaching dance since 2002. She loves to watch the learning process of her students and is passionate about offering dance in a positive environment. After growing up dancing in Rapid City, South Dakota, she moved to New York City and graduated from The Ailey School with a concentration in ballet and modern dance. Elizabeth later completed a BA in Dance from SUNY’s Empire State College, where she focused her studies on child development and dance education. During her ten years in New York City she performed in musicals, danced with the Amir Levi Dance Company, choreographed shows, and taught ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, creative movement, and modern.
Classes at WPUMC include Creative Movement, Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced Tap and Ballet Combo, Tap, Hip Hop, Ballet, Tap, and Jazz/Lyrical from ages 3-18. Over twenty classes are held each week in their Wash Park UMC Studio location. Students build upon their skills throughout the year and have a final showcase performance in the Spring. Over the summer, specialty camps are held in addition to their class offerings. We have loved watching dancers funneling in and out of the building and filling our space with music and movement! As another year begins, we are grateful to be a hub of activity. You can find more information on classes and registering by clicking the button below.
