Donation Drive for the Food Pantry at Denver South High School Aug 2-Aug 23
WPUMC’s Missions team is excited to offer another donation drive for the Giving Grocery food pantry to support our neighbors at Denver South High School. This marks our fifth donation drive for Denver South High School—a partnership we’re proud to keep growing! The connection is especially meaningful because many current and former WPUMC members attended Denver South.
The theme is A fresh start to the school year and we’re collecting full-size bar soap and deodorant.
Located right inside the school, the Giving Grocery is open to every South High School student. This nonprofit pantry is powered entirely by volunteers, including WPUMC member Lori Eronimous.
After the bell on Thursday afternoons during the school year, students can stop by to pick up fresh, nutritious food and personal care items. The pantry now serves 175 students each week—more than double the 80 students it served weekly just three years ago.
Denver South is also a DPS Newcomer Center, welcoming students who are new to the United States from nearly 50 countries. Many of these students rely on the pantry for free, culturally-responsive foods.
This year, however, the Giving Grocery is facing a tighter budget after losing government-related funding. With help from partners such as We Don’t Waste, Food for Thought, and the Food Bank of the Rockies, the pantry is prioritizing basics like rice, beans, canned goods, milk, and meat. Unfortunately, the food pantry has had to scale back on personal care items.
You can help fill that gap. Please join us in supporting our South High School neighbors by donating bar soap and deodorant to the Giving Grocery drive. Collection bins are outside the church office.
