The Link: February 2025

Monthly News from Washington Park United Methodist Church
From Your Pastor

Hello Kristiana,

Happy February! As you may know, the WPUMC SPRC (Staff Parish Relations Committee) has been leading the church in a process to develop some congregational goals. We know that, as a community, our values are Love, Justice, Mission, and Hope. We strive to live these out communally, while knowing that we could live into these values more fully.

You may remember that we started this process with some individually-oriented questions around Love, Justice, Mission, and Hope during our stewardship season last fall. This exercise was to reflect on what these values mean to us as individuals.

Now, we are shifting the focus to the ways our congregation lives out these values through some small group gatherings. All throughout February, there will be several offerings available at different times and places (most in church members’ homes!) You can find the full list of gatherings HERE.

The hope is that we can all find ways to contribute to growing these tenants—not just give the staff more tasks to perform! So we invite you to bring your whole self to this conversation, and truly consider what you are willing to offer in time and talent to help our church grow. The feedback from these sessions will become the basis for our church leadership to develop short and long term goals!

News

On February 9th, an epic contest will determine the best of the best. The participants will bring all they have, and leave it all on the field of play. We hear there will also be a football game that day.

That's right, February 9th is SOUPER BOWL Sunday! Everyone is encouraged to bring donations of canned goods to church throughout the week, with all donations going to the FISH Food Pantry here in Wash Park. To make it a little more fun, there will be two different donation boxes, one for each team playing in the Super Bowl. Drop your donations in the box for the team YOU want to win. We will put the boxes out before worship on Sunday, February 2nd and you can drop off donations at any point through February 9th. We will announce the winners at the end of worship

Mark Your Calendars! - Vacation Bible School

WPUMC will be hosting Vacation Bible School the week of June 16-20. It will run from 9-11:30 AM Monday through Thursday with an end of week celebration on Friday when we will end around noon. This year's theme will be centered around the story of Joseph in Egypt. Registration will be open Monday, March 3rd. If you are interested in helping with VBS, there are many roles that can be filled that include a group or station leader, decorating the weekend before or helping clean up at the end of the week, working the check in/out table or helping me with other related tasks. Send me an email if you are curious about one of the largest children's events that take place in our church to childrensministry@washparkumc.org

Habitat for Humanity

Thanks for Supporting the Habitat Fundraiser!

In October, we concluded our “Big Top, Big Hearts: Building Dreams Together” Habitat for Humanity fundraiser. After totaling the cash, liquidated stock, and some matching funds from a local business, we raised $7,370.00!!

In 2024, we continued to build homes and support families moving into Habitat’s Mountain View community, which is a neighborhood just off South Havana Street and near Havana Heights Park. This development is in the Cherry Creek School District and close to green spaces, public transit, and local businesses. Here’s a recent picture of one of the duplexes in that community. YOU made a difference to a family and to a community.

 WPUMC, THANK YOU!!
