Monthly News from Washington Park United Methodist Church
From Your Pastor

Hello Katie,

We continue our Lenten journey with each other and with Peter the disciple throughout the month of March. In the past weeks, we have been with Peter as he followed the call of Jesus to be a “fisher of people”, as he faced his doubts while walking on water, as he declared his belief in Jesus. As we continue to find our story in Peter’s, we hear from the authors of A Sanctified Art that “we want to affirm that wandering is exploration, not necessarily distance from God . . . [Peter] keeps searching and learning and loving, even after missteps or mistakes.”

Peter’s journey was uniquely his, just like yours is uniquely yours. But what connects us to Peter’s story is that we all wander and wonder, we all have moments of deep doubt and moments of wholehearted faith. We all explore the landscape of our faith lives with alternating steps of hesitation and confidence.

I celebrate this season that many people have found WPUMC to be a part of their faith journey recently. We will welcome new members this month, baptize children and newcomers to our faith, and celebrate together the story of transformation in Christ. We typically have visitors to the church on Easter—how can you invite them along with us on our shared journey? May we all be companions to one another and find our way together.

Grace and peace,

Rev. Sandi

Habitat For Humanity

A SPECIAL HABITAT THANK YOU

Our congregation recently received a thank you note from the Loaves and Fishes coalition for the money we donated to Habitat for Humanity in 2023. As you may know, the coalition is a group of churches who join together to raise money and provide volunteers for Habitat. This thank you letter was an acknowledgement of the money we raised during our fall auction. In part the letter said:

“Thank you for your contributions to the Loaves and Fishes Project in 2023. We have completed our twenty-second home in Denver. This year we are working on a property at 2111 South Jamaica Court, Unit 1, Aurora, CO. An owner hasn’t yet been chosen. This area is called Mountain View and will be in progress during 2024. This year we renewed our commitment to continue to work with Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver to partner with families to make it possible for them to own a safe, well-constructed house. Our build in 2024 will continue in the Mountain View area. It is wonderful to see a family cut the ribbon on their front door and watch it become a home.”

Thank you WPUMC for your continued giving and support of Habitat!

Sign Up to Provide Lunch for Habitat Volunteers!

Collegiate Challenge is back at Habitat Metro Denver! In March, Habitat will be hosting local and nationwide college groups to help fulfill our mission during their spring break. Students give up their time off to give back to Habitat, and we want to give back

to them in return. Let’s provide a Tex Mex lunch to

one of the groups while they volunteer with Habitat!
