Monthly News from Washington Park United Methodist Church
From Your Pastor
Hello Katie," contenteditable="false">Hello {First Name},

As we head into autumn, I’m mindful that we are also heading into a new season at WPUMC. With the onboarding of our new Associate Pastor & Youth Director, Rev. Loren Richmond Jr., we have new opportunities for ministry and community together. Over the next couple of months, Rev. Loren will be focusing on developing relationships with the youth, their families and the larger congregation. We hope that you will take the chance to attend worship this month to meet Loren and his family and welcome them!

While we consider new opportunities for the future, the One Board (our church leadership board) and I have been considering what it might look like to tackle a remodel project downstairs in the Fellowship Hall and kitchen area. I hope that this can not only create a more desirable space, but that it will help us serve our community in new ways.  Such an endeavor will no doubt be a several-years-long process, and this fall, a study committee will be assembled. Your input will be wanted!

We also start a new sermon series on Rally Day called “REORIENT”, which will be a sermon series on considering priorities as church participants and members alongside Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount from the gospel of Matthew. Together, let’s prepare for a new season and chart our course into the future!

Habitat Fundraiser Supports Building Homes for Families

Araceli and Ernesto are excited to raise their three children in a safe home that is in the community they love. Araceli and Ernesto lived in the Elyria Swansea neighborhood for 11 years, but the home they previously rented was unsafe. Pests constantly invaded the home and their heat did not work consistently. In addition, the windows were not sealed properly, allowing heat to escape immediately“We asked the landlord to replace windows or to come and help us seal our home away from pests, but we never would receive a response, or the landlord didn’t see it as an issue,” shares Araceli.

Through hard work, savings and 200 hours of sweat equity, Araceli and Ernesto purchased and are moved into their four-bedroom home in Habitat Metro Denver's Swansea Homes community.

“After all our hard work this is so amazing to finally have the keys to our new home! Our home is where we will be able to share memories forever.” Ernesto continues, “This is a new experience for us and it’s amazing to say we are homeowners.”

From September 11 – 30, we will conduct our Habitat fundraiser to support Habitat homeowners like Araceli and Ernesto. Money raised goes toward building materials and supplies for the house we are sponsoring in the Aria development. As building costs continue to soar, Habitat’s vision for “a world where everyone has a decent place to live” is even more critical. To donate to our fundraiser, make checks payable to WPUMC with Habitat on the memo line. You may also send money through the Venmo app to our church treasurer, Michelle Hoskins (michelle-hoskins-17). Please indicate that your Venmo donation is for Habitat as well. Thank you for your support and donation!

Note: If you donate $250 or more, your donation may qualify for the Enterprise Zone Tax Credit. Contact Carol Nelson at customtrainingllc@Q.com for more information.)

Volunteer Opportunities
There are lots of ways that you can offer your gifts in service to our congregation – looking for a way to be more involved at WPUMC? Here are a few opportunities:
*Ushering – online or in-person! We schedule individuals for a specific Sunday a month for their ushering “shift”. Online ushering doesn’t require you to be in the building, but to engage with online worship participants. In-person ushering requires your presence, and includes greeting people and helping with offering and communion. Email Rev. Sandi at pastor@washparkumc.org.

*New Baby Meal Team - Volunteers Needed!
Wash Park United Methodist Church and Preschool are organizing a team of meal providers from our church and preschool communities that would be willing to offer meals to preschool families that are welcoming new babies into their home. All of you know that when a new baby arrives, life can get hectic. We'd like to make sure that all of our families with new babies feel supported and cared for with the delivery of a meal or two. If you are interested in joining this team to provide meals--please contact Rev. Sandi at pastor@washparkumc.org.

*Sunday Morning Liturgist! If you’d like to help offer a greeting to our worship participants, lead the call to worship and read the scripture, email Rev. Sandi at pastor@washparkumc.org.

There are lots of other ways to volunteer at WPUMC – if there is something specific you’d like to share, or if you are interested in a certain area of leadership, please contact Rev. Sandi at pastor@washparkumc.org
