March 15, 2026 ❖ The Fourth Sunday in Lent

Lessons: 1 Samuel 16:1-13; John 9:1-41

Sermon: "Seeing Well"

We are more than we appear to be. Who is defining what is normal, respectable, well, or whole for us? Is it God or someone/something else? When we exercise our spirits, we undergo transformation and shed old definitions for a new identity in Christ.

Anthems:

"Lord, Send Thy Light" - Burkhardt

"Create in Me a Clean Heart" - Mueller

Worship is live on our homepage and YouTube channel at 11:00 a.m.,

but we love having you with us in the sanctuary!

Lenten Series: Spiritual Exercise for the Soul

Just as we care for our physical bodies through exercise or our minds through training, so too should we care for our souls through spiritual exercise. During Lent this year, let us push ourselves to reach beyond our own schedules and to-do lists and embrace this season of introspection to discern what God has in store for us as we allow God to renew us in preparation for the celebration of Easter Resurrection. On the altar are symbols of some of the classical disciplines that have guided the Christian faith: Bible study, prayer, worship, meditation, and service.

On Behalf of the City of Rocky Mount, thank you for your generous donation of gift cards to support families affected by the recent workforce reduction. Your thoughtfulness provided timely assistance and meaningful relief for many employees and their families, leading up to those still in need, and all cards were dispersed.

This office worked with Human Resources in identifying the affected employees. We notified the affected employee group by email and letter that card distribution would be on a first-come, first-serve basis. After the initial distribution, a few cards remained; we sent a second notice to those still in need, and all cards were dispersed.

Your kindness is deeply appreciated and will be remembered. We value our partnership and look forward to future opportunities to serve the community together.

With gratitude,

Archie Jones

YOUTH NEWS

Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make Saturday's sale a great success! Youth, I was proud of all of you for your hard work, the hospitality you showed those who came to shop, and your great attitudes throughout the day. I hope to see everyone on Sunday night as we welcome a special guest to lead our last Creative Expressions of the year. Following Youth Fellowship, we'll head to Dunkin for coffee and conversation. Bring a few dollars for a sweet treat, and let me know if you need a ride home.

MUSIC NOTES

A big thank you to our Lakeside Ringers for their beautiful contributions to worship on Sunday! We look forward to their return on Easter Sunday. Chancel Choir members, we have three rehearsals left until our dress rehearsal for Seven Last Words! Please make sure you are utilizing the practice tools between rehearsals as we make our final preparations. We're on track for a great performance!

Jake

TOPNOTCHER NEWS

Jake and our choir have worked really hard on The Seven Last Words of Christ by Theodore Dubois and are looking forward to gathering with other local choirs to perform on Good Friday, April 3, at 7:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church. If you need a ride, call the office. We will pick you up and bring you home.

Exciting news for spring! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 7. We have been invited to Dee and Stewart Gibson’s getaway, Bellamy Mill, on Fishing Creek in northern Nash County. We will meet at the church parking lot and leave at 10:30 a.m. Stewart is going to give us a talk on the history of the property, then we will enjoy a boxed lunch from Honey Baked Ham (weather permitting) outside on picnic tables! What a perfect way to welcome Spring! Sign up on the Event Registration page of the website and put what type of sandwich you would like in the comments. You may choose from turkey, ham, or veggie.

May’s Continue the Communion will be at Rocky Mount Ace Buffet (Chinese buffet), 1457 Benvenue Road.

TAR RIVER CHORUS CONCERT

"Reflections of the Soul"

Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m.,

This year, the Tar River Chorus, including some of our Lakeside singers, will perform John Rutter’s “Requiem,” in honor of the 40th anniversary of the piece.

GATHER AROUND THE LONGEST TABLE

On Thursday, April 30, the Harrison Family YMCA is bringing The Longest Table to Rocky Mount! This nationwide movement brings neighbors from across the community together for a free potluck meal and wonderful fellowship. The event is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Landis Pavilion adjacent to the YMCA.

We are in need of Table Captains to provide food and paper goods for about 8 to 10 people, volunteers to assist with setup and cleanup, and folks to attend. Lakeside is one of the sponsors of this event, so we hope you will come out to meet our neighbors and support this exciting event. Contact the church office or Bria Lewis at the YMCA for more information.
