May 31, 2026 ❖ Trinity Sunday

Lessons: Psalm 8; Matthew 28:16-20

Sermon: "A Holy Mystery"

The Trinity is a doctrine that baffles the mind and yet contains a beautiful description of what it means to be in relationship as God is in relationship. As we explore this holy mystery, may we find out something new about ourselves and the way we love God and love our neighbor as ourselves.

Today is Trinity Sunday in the Christian year, when we proclaim the church’s belief in a Triune God—Father, Son, Holy Spirit. It is a day in which we praise and worship the infinitely complex and unfathomable mystery of God’s being as Holy Trinity, One in Three, Three in One. The liturgical color for Trinity Sunday is white, symbolizing God’s purity and perfection. On the paraments, the Celtic Cross with its circle celebrates the sacrificial love and eternal nature of God. The Acolyte brings light to the altar as a reminder of Christ, the Light of life, and leads us out of the sanctuary as a reminder that we are to take this light to the world.

Anthems:

"God the Holy Trinity" - Halls

"A Simple Song" - Bernstein

Worship is live on our homepage and YouTube channel at 11:00 a.m.,

but we love having you with us in the sanctuary!

PENTECOST SUNDAY

We had a wonderful celebration of Pentecost at Lakeside this past Sunday, May 24! Our Sanctuary and congregation wore their fiery best of reds, oranges, and yellows, and we retold the story of the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost in Acts 2:1-21 with help from our Lakeside children and their wind and fire!

Happy Birthday, Church!

See photos of our Pentecost Sunday celebrations below.

CALLED CHURCH CONFERENCE

SUNDAY, JUNE 7, AFTER WORSHIP

There will be a called church conference on Founders Day, Sunday, June 7, immediately following worship for the purpose of voting on two matters:

The Board of Finance, Endowment Committee, and Diaconate recommend for your approval the spending of $94,367 for the purpose of replacing the HVAC system in the Sanctuary and Organ Chamber by Piedmont Service Group. $90,000 of the cost would come from the Lakeside Endowment Fund and the remaining $4,367 would come from the Deferred Maintenance Fund.

The Music Committee, Personnel Committee, and Diaconate recommend for your approval the calling of Zack Ross as Lakeside's new Minister of Music. The Board of Finance and Diaconate have approved the compensation package for this position.

Below you will find links to the Music Committee's recommendation, along with a copy of the Minister of Music (Organist/Choirmaster) job description, and Zack Ross's resume.

SAVE YOUR MILK JUGS!
Plans are underway for our Snowball Mountain Challenge VBS, and we need your help! Please save your white/clear gallon milk jugs for our volunteers to use for decorating. We need them to be delivered to Lakeside no later than Sunday, June 7, sooner if possible. Thanks!

YOUTH NEWS

Very early this coming Sunday morning, nine of our Lakeside Youth will board a plane bound for Phoenix, AZ, to spend a week learning about the faith traditions of the indigenous tribes of the Southwest and experiencing outdoor worship in some of the most beautiful places on earth. Thank you, Lakeside Family, making this trip possible through our fundraising efforts, and for supporting our young people with your prayers. Special thanks to Andy Barker and Ginny Etheridge who will accompany us on the trip.

We will look forward to telling you all about our adventures at a fellowship luncheon this fall. The Valley of the Sun is waiting!

MUSIC NOTES

Thank you for showing such wonderful hospitality to our guests from Houghton University on Saturday! Despite the holiday weekend, Lakeside's Music Committee provided a wonderful meal, we had an enthusiastic audience for the concert, and both the guests and our Lakeside hosts had a wonderful time providing homestays to the students. We're thankful for all of the ways that Lakeside is supportive of music and musicians in our church.

AN IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE ROCKY MOUNT COMMUNITY:

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION WITH DAVE CLAWSON

FOR COACHES AND YOUTH LEADERS

One of the exciting opportunities of this year's Turnage Speaker Series is a small group discussion for coaches, athletic directors, and others who work with area youth organizations. On Sunday, August 23, at 2:30 p.m., Dave Clawson will lead a time of dialogue about the challenges of our current environment of high school and college athletics, including reflections on his own journey as college sports evolved into an industry.

The session will include a chance for participants to ask questions and engage in conversation. We hope you will encourage your friends who are involved in school, community, or nonprofit youth and athletic organizations to join us. Participation for this session is by registration only through the Event Registration page of our website by clicking the button below.

In addition to this session, Coach Clawson will share part of his faith journey with us in morning worship on August 23 and offer a public lecture at 5:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary, where he will share further thoughts about leadership and character and provide a time of conversation. Make plans now to join us!
