Vol. 67 No. 34 ✥ August 26, 2026

August 30, 2026 ❖ The Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Lessons: Psalm 128; Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52

Sermon: "It's the Little Things"

Too often, we are looking for God to be in an impressive place – we are expecting earthly kingdoms, and then Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to mustard seeds, yeast, pearls, and buried treasure. What have we overlooked about where God is at work because of our expectations? How does Jesus surprise us about God’s Kingdom in these parables?

Our Final Summer Sermon Series isSurprise! Parables from Jesus.” We encounter deep truths when we explore the teachings of Jesus in parables, and we also are often surprised by Jesus’ interpretations. We will explore these surprising stories in a 6-week series as we end our summer season together.

Anthem:

"Be Thou My Vision" - arr. Richard Shephard

YOUTH NEWS

We are looking forward to a wonderful time together this coming Sunday, August 30, as we pray for the start of the school year with a Blessing of the Backpacks in worship and then have lunch in Robbins Hall to welcome Jacob. If you have not already signed up for lunch, please do so as soon as possible so that we can order enough food.

Our Fall Kick-Off Sunday is not far away! We will resume our regular Sunday evening activities for Youth and Children on September 13 with a family Tex-Mex feast, games, and information sessions for the various age groups. Be sure to bring your calendars as we will spend some time scheduling activities for the coming months.

We are looking forward to a terrific year of learning and living the call of our faith to be good neighbors!

MUSIC NOTES

As we continue to prepare for the beginning of the 2026-2027 season, the music ministry is recruiting volunteers to assist with children’s music activities on Sunday evenings. Anyone interested in volunteering is invited to reach out to zack@lakesidechurchrmt.org. This can be a great opportunity for a veteran musician to help encourage and support our young musicians or for someone interested in learning the fundamentals of music along with our kids. Either way, it’s a ton of fun! All are welcome.

Rehearsals for both the Lakeside Ringers and the Chancel Choir will resume on Wednesday, September 9. Both ensembles have plenty of room to grow, so please consider joining us for the 2026-2027 season. No audition is required.

Zack

TOPNOTCHERS NEWS

Our next Continue the Communion lunch will be at Lazeez Indian Restaurant on September 6. Dove Notes will resume on Wednesday, September 9 at 10:00 a.m. in Godwin Library. In October, we are planning a trip to Hardly Alpaca Farms. Not only will we learn about alpacas and their wonderful fur, and we will also be participating in a soap making workshop. The exact date will be announced once we have finalized the plans.

CHILDREN'S CORNER

I am excited to meet all the families this coming Sunday. I hope to see you all there as we get to know each other and fellowship together. If anyone is interested in volunteering with children's church and Sunday nights, I can still use volunteers to help out. I would love for our Lakeside families to be involved this year and be an active part of their child's faith journey. I believe it is so important for you as parents and I to be partners and a resource for your children to get the tools that they need to build a relationship with Jesus. Please click the button below to sign up.

August 30 is the blessing of the backpacks so families, do not forget to bring your children's backpacks and bless them for a successful school year. This week begins my first year at RMA so please send any prayers my way. I would be very grateful. Thank you for all your support so far and everyone being so caring about my new positions. I am looking forward to the new year. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Jacob

GATEKEEPERS NEEDS YOUR HELP

Each year, Gatekeepers Workcamp uses dozens of plastic containers for paint storage, and we need your help replenishing our supply. Please save your plastic containers with a built-in handle, from items such as coffee, peanuts, pet treats, etc. Containers with lids are preferred. You may bring clean, dry containers by the church office anytime throughout the year. Thank you!

Starting this week, our staff will begin our transition to our new staff email addresses at our church's URL (web address). You will find each staff member's new email address listed below. Please update your email contact information. If you have any questions about how to update contacts, please don't hesitate to reach out.

**And Don't worry - if you send an email to an old email address, these emails will be checked or forwarded and will not be missed!**
