Vol. 67 No. 24 ✥ June 17, 2026

June 21, 2026 ❖ The Fourth Sunday after Pentecost

Lessons: Joshua 2:1-24, James 2:18-25

Sermon: "Unexpected Faith: Rahab"

History doesn't usually remember women like Rahab in a positive light, if they are remembered at all. Their assumed moral failings, rather than their endurance of hardship and determination to survive in challenging times or their responses of faith, typically define them in the eyes of the world. Even within the Church, we have often failed to dig deep enough into Rahab's story to grasp the remarkable faith and courage of this grandmother in Jesus' family tree.

In our first summer worship series, we are exploring stories of brave women of the Hebrew Bible, our Old Testament, who served God, risked much, and showed that having the character of God is not limited by gender or status. Despite these ancient stories occurring in a male-dominated society, these women are hailed as heroes of the faith. So we name in Hebrew, “Eshet Chayil” – “Woman of Valor” – the women in our own lives to mirror these inspiring, strong women from our scriptures.

THANK YOU, LISA!

Monday, June 15, marked Lisa Meadows' last day as our Minister to Children. As she transitions to volunteer opportunities in the congregation, we express our appreciation for her leadership and love for our children and the ways she has already enhanced Lakeside's ministries. We look forward to continuing to serve alongside Lisa as a member of our church family for years to come.

COMMUNITY VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2026!

We had a great week at our Community Vacation Bible School with First United Methodist, First Presbyterian, Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal, and St. Andrew's Episcopal, hosted at Lakeside!

Thank you to our fearless leader, Lisa Meadows, Minister to Children at Lakeside, to Zack Ross our Music Leader, and to the many, many volunteer teachers and youth helpers who made this week happen for our children!

We raised $850 for our offering for United Community Ministries and collected 600 cans and nonperishable items for their food pantry!

YOUTH NEWS

Our 35th year of Gatekeepers Workcamp is right around the corner. We are still in need of a few volunteers to help with the cookout on Sunday, July 12, and other logistics. Let me know if you are available to help.

In celebration of this special anniversary, we invite all Gatekeepers participants, past and present, to join us for a time of worship and celebration on July 19, with a reception to follow the worship service. This year's participants will be needed to participate in the worship service. Thank you, Lakeside, for 35 years of faithful ministry to the Rocky Mount community through Gatekeepers Workcamp!

I am happy to sign service hour forms for any VBS youth helpers. You can get them to me by email, mail, or drop off at the church office.

Elizabeth

AN IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE ROCKY MOUNT COMMUNITY:

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION WITH DAVE CLAWSON

FOR COACHES AND YOUTH LEADERS

One of the exciting opportunities of this year's Turnage Speaker Series is a small group discussion for coaches, athletic directors, and others who work with area youth organizations. On Sunday, August 23, at 2:30 p.m., Dave Clawson will lead a time of dialogue about the challenges of our current environment of high school and college athletics, including reflections on his own journey as college sports evolved into an industry.

The session will include a chance for participants to ask questions and engage in conversation. We hope you will encourage your friends who are involved in school, community, or nonprofit youth and athletic organizations to join us. Participation for this session is by registration only through the Event Registration page of our website by clicking the button below.

In addition to this session, Coach Clawson will share part of his faith journey with us in morning worship on August 23 and offer a public lecture at 5:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary, where he will share further thoughts about leadership and character and provide a time of conversation. Make plans now to join us!
