We welcome Rev. Jessica Hearne, CBF Field Personnel serving in Danville, Virginia, to our pulpit this Sunday. Jessica serves with and through Grace and Main Fellowship, an intentional, ecumenical Christian community devoted to hospitality, simplicity, prayer, nonviolent action, and grassroots community development. The foundation of their ministry is to build relationships and community.

Grace and Main ministers with and among people in Danville who are experiencing homelessness, hunger, poverty, addiction, as well as housing insecurity through: 1) a network of hospitality houses where people make room for others who need a place to stay, 2) providing emergency grocery bags, transportation to grocery stores and the local food pantry, and distributing produce from their Urban Fam - a sustainable farm, including Permaculture principles and Global Natural Farming strategies, 3) providing a tool lending library for friends and neighbors to borrow tools and equipment, 4) advocating for policies and legislation that improves the health of the environment for current and future generations, and 5) Supporting community development by training leaders who have been directly affected by poverty. All of your gifts for the offering will support the long-term presence of CBF field personnel serving in the United States and around the world. You have three ways to give to the Offering for Global Missions: You can give your pocket change to our Lakeside kids, who have CBF Offering-themed banks on Sundays in April. You can also write a check to Lakeside and designate “CBF OGM.” Or you can join us at our Missions Marketplace after worship on Sunday, April 26, where you can bid on auction items donated by our talented church members. All proceeds from the auction will be designated for the offering.

GATHER AROUND THE LONGEST TABLE

On Thursday, April 30, the Harrison Family YMCA is bringing The Longest Table to Rocky Mount! This nationwide movement brings neighbors from across the community together for a free potluck meal and wonderful fellowship. The event is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Landis Pavilion adjacent to the YMCA.

We are in need of Table Captains to provide food and paper goods for about 8 to 10 people, volunteers to assist with setup and cleanup, and folks to attend. Lakeside is one of the sponsors of this event, so we hope you will come out to meet our neighbors and support this exciting event. Contact the church office or Bria Lewis at the YMCA for more information.

YOUTH NEWS

All of Lakeside's youth and children and their families are invited to join us for our end-of-year party on Sunday evening, May 3, beginning at 5:30 p.m. We will have dinner and games on Wright Commons and wrap up a wonderful school year of growing in faith together.

Pilgrimage participants and parents, be sure to mark your calendar for the orientation meeting on May 3, prior to the party. Participants and chaperones will meet at 2:30 p.m. in the Conference Room. Parents will join us 4:15 p.m.

All youth families, be sure to make plans to be here for our car wash on Saturday, May 16, and then on Sunday, May 17, we will celebrate our youth and graduates in worship. All youth are needed to assist with the worship service.

Youth are needed to assist with the Missions Marketplace Auction this Sunday following worship. We will not have activities this Sunday evening.

MUSIC NOTES

We hope you will join us on Sunday, following worship, for Missions Marketplace where our Children's Choir will perform two selections with a local and international focus. The children have worked hard and are excited to share their music with you.

Founders Day preparations continue for the Chancel Choir at tonight's rehearsal. We are looking forward to the special music selections that will be offered for this service, celebrating the past and the future. We are also looking forward to featuring our Choral Scholars on several selections in the coming weeks!
