April 5, 2026 ❖ Resurrection Sunday

Lessons:

Sermon: "Shaking Things Up"

This year, we read the Easter story of Jesus’s resurrection from the Gospel of Matthew, and Matthew presents God’s work in raising Jesus from the dead as an earthshaking occurrence. God has triumphed over death. There are earthquakes, angels, and comatose guards in our Gospel lesson. God’s victory is big and extraordinary and powerful. God’s given us a hope that is not limited by the human condition, even death itself. With resurrection, God has shaken things up for the women at the tomb, the disciples, and all of us. How will we live into this new reality and hope? How will we continue God’s Kingdom work that “shakes things up” for this world?

Anthems:

And Can It Be - arr. McKlveen

"Diadem" - arr. Mauk

"Blessed be the God and Father" - Wesley

YOUTH NEWS

Many thanks to members of the Youth & Children's Committee who stuffed TONS of egg for Sunday's Easter Egg hunt and to the youth who helped with the event. It was a beautiful Palm Sunday at Lakeside! There will be no Sunday evening activities this week. Happy Easter, everyone!

We have only a few Sunday nights of Youth Fellowship remaining before our break for summer. All youth families, be sure to make plans to be here for our car wash on Saturday, May 16, and then on Sunday, May 17, we will celebrate our youth and graduates in worship. All youth are needed to assist with the worship service.

Enjoy a safe and fun Spring Break!

MUSIC NOTES

On Friday, April 3, our Chancel Choir will join forces with seven other choirs, a professional orchestra, and guest soloists to present Theodore Dubois' Seven Last Words of Christ. This ecumenical concert is the result of a months-long collaboration with partner churches, and is presented for free to our community. We hope you'll plan to join us at First Baptist Church at 7:00 p.m. on Friday for a beautiful and powerful retelling of the story of Christ's final moments on the cross.

TOPNOTCHER NEWS

We are offering rides to the choral presentation of The Seven Last Words of Christ at First Baptist Church on Good Friday, April 3, at 7:00 p.m. This cantata will be sung by our Lakeside Chancel Choir, along with other area choirs, with our own Jake Mauk conducting and Zack Ross accompanying. The choirs have worked hard on this piece, and we hope to have a great turn out. The concert is free. Contact the church office if you would like a ride.

Back by popular demand, on Tuesday, June 9, we will be riding over to Tarboro to see the North Carolina Symphony’s annual free concert on The Commons. Bring your lawn chairs (and maybe some bug spray!). More details about this event will be forthcoming.

Also be sure to sign up for our outing to Dee and Stewart Gibson's home, Bellamy's Mill, on April 7, and plan to join us for our next Continue the Communion on May 3. Information about both events can be found below.

CBF OFFERING FOR GLOBAL MISSIONS

“Embracing Neighbors, Nurturing Hope” Colossians 3:12-14

We invite you this year to give generously to the CBF Offering for Global Missions. All of your gifts for the offering will support the long-term presence of CBF field personnel serving in the United States and around the world. If you would like to pray for or learn about our field personnel, pick up one of our Prayer Guides in the Sunday School room or Narthex on Sunday.

You have three ways to give to the Offering for Global Missions: You can give your pocket change to our Lakeside kids, who have CBF Offering-themed banks on Sundays in April. You can also write a check to Lakeside and designate “CBF OGM.” Or you can join us at our Missions Marketplace after worship on Sunday, April 26, where you can bid on auction items donated by our talented church members. All proceeds from the auction will be designated for the offering.

GATHER AROUND THE LONGEST TABLE

On Thursday, April 30, the Harrison Family YMCA is bringing The Longest Table to Rocky Mount! This nationwide movement brings neighbors from across the community together for a free potluck meal and wonderful fellowship. The event is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Landis Pavilion adjacent to the YMCA.

We are in need of Table Captains to provide food and paper goods for about 8 to 10 people, volunteers to assist with setup and cleanup, and folks to attend. Lakeside is one of the sponsors of this event, so we hope you will come out to meet our neighbors and support this exciting event. Contact the church office or Bria Lewis at the YMCA for more information.
