Vol. 67 No. 20 ✥ May 20, 2026

May 24, 2026 ❖ Pentecost Sunday

Lessons: 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13; Acts 2:1-21

Sermon: "A Church on Fire"

In the story of the birth of the church at Pentecost, we are reminded that there is an energy to God’s Spirit that inspires all of God’s people to receive gifts that bring the Church to life. This story was messy, loud, and powerful (as our children will enact during the reading of Acts 2 this Sunday). It inspires us not to sit idly by and miss God’s Spirit’s fiery inspiration. Are we ready to be a church on fire – Spirit-driven and ready for whatever God’s doing next among us?

Pentecost is this Sunday, May 24! To celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and the “Birthday of the Church” (Acts 2:1-21), we encourage you to wear the colors of fire: red, orange, and yellow, to worship. Our Sanctuary will be adorned with the colors of fire and our children will help lead us in worship by participating during the reading from Acts 2. We hope you’ll join us for a grand celebration of the beginning of the Church Universal!

Anthems:

"Come, Holy Ghost" - arr. Mauk

"A Mighty Wind" - Andrews

Worship is live on our homepage and YouTube channel at 11:00 a.m.,

but we love having you with us in the sanctuary!

CALLED CHURCH CONFERENCE

SUNDAY, JUNE 7, AFTER WORSHIP

There will be a called church conference on Founders Day, Sunday, June 7, immediately following worship for the purpose of voting on two matters:

The Board of Finance, Endowment Committee, and Diaconate recommend for your approval the spending of $94,367 for the purpose of replacing the HVAC system in the Sanctuary and Organ Chamber by Piedmont Service Group. $90,000 of the cost would come from the Lakeside Endowment Fund and the remaining $4,367 would come from the Deferred Maintenance Fund.

The Music Committee, Personnel Committee, and Diaconate recommend for your approval the calling of Zack Ross as Lakeside's new Minister of Music. The Board of Finance and Diaconate have approved the compensation package for this position.

Below you will find links to the Music Committee's recommendation, along with a copy of the Minister of Music (Organist/Choirmaster) job description, and Zack Ross's resume.

AN IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE ROCKY MOUNT COMMUNITY:

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION WITH DAVE CLAWSON

FOR COACHES AND YOUTH LEADERS

One of the exciting opportunities of this year's Turnage Speaker Series is a small group discussion for coaches, athletic directors, and others who work with area youth organizations. On Sunday, August 23, at 2:30 p.m., Dave Clawson will lead a time of dialogue about the challenges of our current environment of high school and college athletics, including reflections on his own journey as college sports evolved into an industry.

The session will include a chance for participants to ask questions and engage in conversation. We hope you will encourage your friends who are involved in school, community, or nonprofit youth and athletic organizations to join us. Participation for this session is by registration only through the Event Registration page of our website by clicking the button below.

In addition to this session, Coach Clawson will share part of his faith journey with us in morning worship on August 23 and offer a public lecture at 5:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary, where he will share further thoughts about leadership and character and provide a time of conversation. Make plans now to join us!
