A CUP OF COFFEE

By Richard Weinstein, President & COO

Ocean Reef Community Foundation

I don’t drink coffee. When most people hear that they think it is some diet related, health conscious, perhaps even cultish movement but it so happens I just don’t like the taste. However, I have always been fascinated with the idea of coffee. I even love the smell and over the years have learned to appreciate that others (most of the entire population on the planet) cannot live without it. “We Serve Coffee” is certainly a welcome sign in any restaurant window, especially early in the morning and late afternoon. It also happens to be the very clever tag line for the National Coffee Association that supports all things related to the coffee business. But coffee has not always had such an easy time. It's the new kid on the block compared to tea. Tea has been around for some 3000 years, so coffee is relatively new, dating back to 800 or 900 AD depending on the source. Seems that Yemen is the likely origination but popularity stemmed from Ethiopia.

AS YOU LIKE IT

By Yurianna Mikolay, Executive Director, Ocean Reef Community Foundation

People have their preferences and getting to enjoy things your way makes life more pleasant. As this E-Link brought to mind, not everyone wakes up with a thirst for coffee. Lots of folks are now participating in Dry January or abstaining from alcohol all together. Dietary requirements are common and complicated. I hear some of us are now even fasting well into the day. With a hopeful eye to the future, it made me wonder how community preferences might help us plan better events. With your donation you will be helping the Medical Center, Cultural Center, Academy, Art League, ORCAT and the OR Conservation Association with their efforts to serve our community. Knowing you are making a difference is often enough but with your minimum donation of $1,000 you will be listed in the Ocean Reef Press as a Patron Donor following the event in February. In addition, all Patron Donors will be entered into a raffle and the lucky winner along with seven of their closest friends will enjoy a sunset cocktail cruise. But this is not just any cruise. On April 26th you will board Preferred Partner Barton & Gray’s 40’ Hinckley docked in the Fishing Village. Enjoy a two hour cruise past The Point and celebrate another day’s finale while watching the smoldering orange sun drop ever so slowly into the sea. Enjoy that cruise back under the stars knowing it’s all for a good cause!

Contact the All Charities office to become a Patron Donor at (305) 367-5996 or allcharities@oceanreef.com. The winner will be randomly drawn at the Friday night wine tasting on February 11th, 2022.
