WE SEEK TO UNITE ALL PEOPLE WITH GOD AND EACH OTHER IN CHRIST THROUGH WORSHIP, FELLOWSHIP, EDUCATION, AND SERVICE

Rector's Ramblings

I want to say thank you to the people of St. Mark’s who have been so supportive during the time of my father’s death. Many of you know the challenge of this transition.  I it hard to imagine the world without a parent.  It is the loss of a pillar that was always there for you.

The many cards and verbal expressions had been very touching.  It is difficult to be the caregiver who needs care.  I am thankful for your care.  St. Mark’s is truly a community that exemplifies the call to love as Christ has loved us.  Thank you for you love during this time of grief.

Drum roll please!!  Our Sunday School kids assembled 593 Hygiene Kits on Sunday, May 4.  Father RJ blessed the kits and the ones who will receive them.

Emily, all the kids, and myself appreciate all the donations our Parish has provided to help with this ongoing project.  Sunday School will take the summer off from assembly, but will continue to accept antibacterial bar soap (Dial), washcloths (a great deal can be found at Walmart 18 pack/$4.88), checks and money (mention Sunday School Outreach).  Maybe a Parish assembly will happen this summer?

Many thanks go to Parish Photographer Bill Rand and to our Delivery Man Gary Mull!

April 12, 2012, was a banner day at St. Mark's—the appearance of Maestro Hector Olivera performing at our refurbished organ and his electronic Atelier.

Pam McCarthy had handled ticket sales for the event and as the hour for his appearance approached, I went to our console, which was positioned right at chancel center, and played the Westminster Strike on the chimes, and then I turned to the congregation and said, "And now, Maestro Olivera!" and Hector took his place and launched into Meyerbeer's March from "Le Prophete."

From there, we were treated to an assortment of both classical and popular favorites culminating in a duet with himself which he had pre-recorded on his Atelier and then played in person on our organ.

We had a festive reception afterwards in the Sloan Family Room, and then Hector said to me, "I want to show you some things on the organ tomorrow." Wow - what an invitation!

At the appointed time, there I was on the organ bench with this genius showing me a new device that would enlarge our tonal voices by a factor of several hundred - a Rodgers MX-200.
