Approaching Holy Week with Caution

Greetings! Happy first day of Spring 2021!

I was pleased to be at the Port Hope Extendicare this past Thursday (I always go the third Thursday of the month for a service). The residents, all now vaccinated, helped me identify and celebrate the many signs of Spring - birds returning, ice melting, seeds planting, rain falling - and all bringing new life.

After this 'holy hibernation' of COVID time, we look cautiously to celebrate the spiritual gifts that spring, Holy Week and Easter have for us. Read below some of what is planned and, depending on protocols and other factors, additional opportunities of experiencing new life in this season of reawakening.

PALM SUNDAY

with a Dramatic Reading of the Passion

Palm Sunday March 28 at 10:30 am Outside

As we locked down after our Christmas morning service outside, we plan to re-open for public worship in the same place - out on the patio (and indoor if it rains!). Some special Palm branches are coming from Holton's, and we will also have a dramatic reading of the Passion. Of course we will be masked and distanced, but we can welcome up to 25 parishioners. For those who prefer to watch from home, the service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel.

THE LAST WEEK

As we enter Holy Week after Palm Sunday, Father William is preparing and will be emailing/sending out each morning, a short reflection/meditation based on this book available here. The authors follow the Gospel of Mark, the only Gospel that describes the day-by-day account of Jesus's final week in Jerusalem.

More details coming next week, but we are planning to offer a variety of both online and in-person services and ways to observe the liturgies of Holy Week March 29 to April 3.

Tuesday at 10:30 am a service from the Cathedral with Bishop Asbil for the Blessing of Oils and the Renewal of Vows

Wednesday at 5 pm Evensong with Fr William and Cantate Chimers

Maundy Thursday. 1 pm Online worship with PWRDF

6 pm Passover Seder Supper on zoom (12 must reserve)

8 pm Last Supper Communion in the Church (for 12)

Good Friday 12 noon Stations of the Cross on zoom

Holy Saturday 12 noon Easter in Jerusalem with Fr William's friends

7 pm The movie Risen with in Mezzanine with room for 10 people.

EASTER SUNDAY MORNING

8 am Sunrise service with The Early Risers

Holy Communion in the church

10:30 Easter Celebration back in the Church
