THE LION'S ROAR

From the Outreach & Mission Committee of St. Mark's

August 2024

We are St. Mark's Episcopal Church, an inclusive fellowship
called by God, through Christ, to love and serve the world.

It’s Your Day, Anne Errington

On Sunday, July 21, the O&M Committee announced, “Anne Errington, this is your day!” You have been involved in the life of St. Mark's from the beginning, most importantly as one of our founding members. You were a lector and made sure there were lectors each Sunday. You sewed our first altar linens for the seasons of the church year. You are an original member of the choir. From the beginning, St. Marker's always made a joyful noise. And did you know that Anne sang in the Tanglewood Chorus for many years? She served on the Chapel Committee before we became a church. I could go on and on. Anne

recently resigned from the Outreach and Mission Committee. She is one of the original members of the team. Anne, we will all miss your wise and well-thought out contributions. In your honor. Anne, past and present team members are adding additional copies of Wonder, Love and Praise to the pews. You are now a member emeritus of O&M. We all thank you for your part in making St. Mark's the wonderful church it is today.

Children of Light Mountain Ministries

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”– Nelson Mandela

Children of Light Mountain Ministries Haiti believes education is a catalyst for change and empowerment for young men and women and uses Christian principles as its guiding foundation.

After the severe period of unrest that Haiti experienced over the winter, local contact Jennifer Stoddard enthusiastically reports that the Center is running smoothly again. Vacation Bible School is over, having welcomed about 200 children with its programming. A popular program was one of “girls’ empowerment,'' built on existing crochet skills and added craft lessons. Music continues every Saturday led by volunteer drum, piano and guitar teachers. As the school year approaches, the Center will restart its educational program of tutoring and academic help, English lessons, and continued enrichment through craft and music. Though these academic programs are offered on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, the Center welcomes children every day, giving support that fuels their personal growth.

Of course, program needs continue. Chairs to accommodate participants are one priority. Ironwork to secure doors and windows is another. St. Mark’s supports Children of Light Mountain Ministries through its Outreach and Mission Committee.

BBB’s mission is to feed families and individuals on the islands of Beaufort who are facing food insecurities. By partnering with local farmers, merchants and volunteers, BBB is ready to meet the needs of the new community. BBB’s founder Marva Beazer recruits volunteers, collects basket items, cleans, preps, fills and loads baskets, and delivers them monthly to 33 families and individuals. At BBB we believe no one should ever go to bed hungry and be without life's essentials.
