April | Issue XII
Paideia at Tulsa Classical Academy
As with the end of a marathon, we are about to turn the corner on our final leg of the race this school year. Students are spending more time learning outside thanks to warmer weather, year-end assessments are taking place and calendars are filling up with a plethora of celebrations. It’s an exciting season to say the least. To see an academic year as a marathon is quite accurate, considering the perseverance, challenge and dedication they both require to cross the finish line.
With that being said, we are excited to celebrate the wonderful feats of this past year at TCA. From reveling in students' lovely artwork at the Art Show to enjoying the beauty to be heard during our Spring Music Showcase, there are many excellent things to celebrate in this season. Field trips are a big highlight right now, too. I wish I could have recorded the moment some of our Kindergarteners got to ride on a school bus for the first time; it was quite an exciting experience to behold. Who knew!
As we round this corner together, continue to encourage your students to finish strong. Our teachers are determined to make the most of these final weeks, and there are still wonderful things in store. As a community, we have walked through many ups and downs, and it’s quite a feat to see the end of our inaugural year in sight. I’m not sure there is a more resilient, hard working, committed group of people than the community we have here at TCA. Let’s keep our eyes on the prize, and finish this race strong.

On April 8th TCA Lionhearts studied about the solar eclipse in class and spent time outside to experience the eclipse with their classmates.
The Impressions of a LionHeart Art Show was a huge success. We raised over $2200 for the Art Program. Thank you to Mrs. Wilhite and the volunteer team for setting up a fabulous display.
TCA 5th graders experienced a day out of Antebellum and Civil War History on Wednesday, March 17. Classes rotated through teacher-led stations that explored musical Spirituals with Miss Gill, Textile Art and embroidery with art teacher Mrs. Wilhite. Special thanks to the 5th grade parent who donated needed items for this activity. Jack Lee and his Reenactment Commander set up a small encampment with artifacts to share with our scholars. Soldier life was examined as well as practicing some beginning basic training. Mr. Tyson led class groups in tent building, Mrs. Weese helped her groups to rediscover the 2,000 year-old game of marbles and Mrs. Woods engaged students in a game exploring plantation life. A picnic lunch on the lovely TCA grounds was enjoyed before classes resumed for the afternoon. Hearty thanks are extended to the parent volunteers that guided student groups through the morning activities.

Handbook Focus

For students to thrive in school, they must master the fundamentals.
The grade level placement policy is designed to promote educational excellence and fairness by placing students at the most appropriate level for instruction. Tulsa Classical Academy will respect the promotion and retention decisions from the school from which a student transfers. If students new to the school are found to be reading more than one grade level behind their existing peer group, they may be asked to enroll in the grade level deemed appropriate by the teacher and Head of School. If the parent chooses that the student be placed at the grade level in which the student originally enrolled against the advice of the teacher and Head of School, a signed document of this choice will become part of the student’s permanent file.
