The LoCastro Report
Seventeenth Edition
February 29, 2020
This is more than an election… it’s a "job interview" for a position with massive responsibilities that requires EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS. Our Collier County 2021 budget will top $2 Billion Dollars… let’s ensure the strongest & most experienced County Commissioner is in the District 1 seat. I'm NOT running to be a politician… I'm running to be YOUR PUBLIC SERVANT!

It has been a busy and exciting February for the campaign and March promises to be EVEN BIGGER! I'm honored to get the chance to continue meeting with so many organizations and people in our community. Take a look at what we've been up to!

I hope you'll remember the “Vets Count” initiative in our community a few weeks back. We once again we found numerous homeless veterans and civilian citizens living in the woods all over East Naples. The initiative shined light on a significant need many of our veterans have. Thankfully St. Matthew’s House and the Wounded Warriors of Collier County do amazing work helping these citizens by giving them help and a "hand up"!

Last week I attended a Naples Planning Advisory Board meeting with the Wounded Warriors of Collier County and their President Dale Mullin as they attempted to get a variance for their “Alpha House” that houses veterans making the transition back to civilian life in Naples. The house is currently zoned for 4 residents, but can easily hold 8 and every bed counts when there are so many in need! Unfortunately, the variance request was denied by a 5-1 vote. While we were very disappointed in the initial outcome, the board has agreed to meet on March 11 to re-look at the bed increase. So, stay tuned, we are not giving up!

A strong showing of support at the meeting!

Ensuring quality education for our children is important to me. As part of this campaign, I am visiting many schools all over our county. It is vital for our public servants to sit down with school leaders and parents to discuss ways we, as a community, can support them and continue to make them better.

During one of my visits to Royal Palm Academy , I was honored to be asked to emcee & be the auctioneer for their 22nd annual gala. The event was last Saturday, and we raised a record-breaking six-figure amount allowing the school to add many improvements for the students and to continue funding scholarships for those in need. Thank you for the warm reception and a fun night had by all!
Head of School & fellow veteran (U.S. Army) Scott Baier
Lisa Giamarino led the gala team. Great job, Lisa!

After a phenomenal week, The Vietnam Wall memorial has departed Marco Island on its 2020 Tour. I was so privileged to be part of the motorcycle escort, help construct it last week and, after an emotional closing ceremony, help disassemble it as it moves on to its next location. As an Air Force veteran, it was an unforgettable and emotional experience! A special thank you goes to Lee Rubenstein , Commander of my American Legion Post 404, for everything he did to bring The Wall back to Marco Island. It took a team of so many people, and he was the right leader for the job!
Rubbing the name of fellow U.S. Air Force Academy graduate Lance Sijan (‘65)… our first Air Force Academy Medal of Honor recipient (presented posthumously) & Vietnam POW.
Thank you, Commander Lee Rubenstein!

It takes a proven strong leader to ensure developers with poor plans, high paid attorneys, and people who want to continue dumping things in District 1 & Collier County don’t continue the trend and they have to deal with a Commissioner who can represent our County with proven expertise & strength. Regardless of your District--all five Commissioners have an equal vote for ALL issues affecting our entire County. The experience we have in the District 1 seat matters for EVERYONE !

We are full steam ahead on our campaign, and we've still got a long way to go. I need your support! Please consider an investment in our campaign. And let me know if there are any questions I can answer. Call me directly at (239) 777-2452 or send me a personal email message at Rick@RickLoCastro.com .
