Happy almost May! The biggest news in the SD ecosystem is San Diego Venture Group (SDVG) and CONNECT
merging
to provide more resources to more startups, especially earlier in their journey from committed to crushing it. I am excited to see ecosystem leaders Mike Krenn and Silvia Mah at the helm of this new partnership.
In the graphic below by Startup San Diego Executive Director
Jarrod Russell
, you can see the life cycle and journey for a local startup and the associated organizations that help a company go from an idea (curious) to all in (committed) to scaling the validated business model (crushing it). With organizations helping at a specific stage, we all work to seamlessly hand off companies to the next organization at the right stage, ideally, and don’t have to be everything to everyone. It’s a beautiful thing and we’re doing it well in San Diego. The merger between CONNECT and SDVG will further fuel these efforts.

Also, we are one month out from
San Diego Startup Week
. A few big upgrades this year include the geography we are covering, starting in Tijuana for opening night on May 28, then the Convention Center (!!!) from May 29 - June 1, and on June 2, we are taking the show up to Carlsbad at
Make
for a full North County spotlight. We are thrilled to showcase our mega-region and we still have a few speaking slots available, so drop a talk or panel idea
here
if you would like to contribute. The full schedule is coming soon so stay tuned.
To date, hundreds of volunteers have been working tirelessly to curate and organize this year’s event, including co-founder and CEO of Whooo’s Reading
Hayley Brooks
. In this week’s
Tacos & Tech Podcast
, we learn about how she started her San Diego-based education technology startup with her co-founders, and why she felt compelled to help volunteer in the startup community while also running her company. She is very inspiring; thanks for all of your help Hayley!
Cheers!
