Market Updates
Vendor News
----------------------  mt hood organic farms
It's officially fall, and that means an abundance of everything at market. If fruit is still calling you, you're in luck! We welcome back Mt. Hood Organic Farms for the season bringing crates and crates of carefully manged organic apples, pears and many delicious varieties of sun sweetened orchard fruit. We also welcome Valley Berry Farm from Molalla, OR with late season strawberries and raspberries.

If something more autumnal is more to your liking, pick up your favorite winter squash from Sun Gold and Deep Roots Farm or crisp and flavorful broccoli or cauliflower from Persephone or Winter Green Farm. Now is the time to savor all your favorite greens too, from the more delicate spinach and mizuna to the heartier kales and collards, and Sweet Leaf Farm and Naked Acres are great stops for those.
As we move into fall we start to say goodbye to vendors, and this week is the last market of the season for Unger Farms, Gluten Free Gem and Little Handfuls Organic. Darcy and Dustin braved it out on Hancock street (often with babies in tow) for the market season, and want you to know you can now find their healthy bites for little mouths available at 4 New Seasons locations: Grant Park, Woodstock, Happy Valley and Cedar Hills.
In case you didn't know, Liepold Farms, Blooming Goodies and Sterling Cookies have ended their season.

HFM's 1st Annual Preserves Contest!
It's the time of year when our local food focus is on preserving: saving what we can of the summer abundance in the form of delicious treats and pantry staples to last us through the fall and winter. To celebrate this timeless activity, we're running our first ever Hollywood Farmers Market Preserves Contest! See our website for contest rules and guidelines. We will be accepting entries at the information booth for the next four Saturdays, through October 8th. Good luck to all contest entrants, and happy preserving!
Canned Food Drive at Grocery Outlet this Saturday
This Saturday Give2Get will be collecting canned food at the Grocery Outlet during the farmers market hours, to benefit Senior and disabled low-income housing residents.

Hollywood Farmers Market seeks board members

Board membership is a terrific opportunity for volunteers, vendors and market lovers to become involved with this successful nonprofit farmers market. The Board welcomes applications from individuals enthusiastic about the Market, and especially those with backgrounds in the areas of community outreach, agriculture, communications, account/financial planning, human resources and marketing. Applications are due by September 25th. See our website for more information.
See you Saturday at the market!
It's Alive - InFARMation September 27th
The reasons to ferment and enjoy fermented goods are myriad! DIY enthusiasts treasure the edible challenge. Farmers appreciate the opportunity to turn bumper crops into value-added products, while taste and nutritional content are certainly draws for many folks.

One fermentation activist will give a lay of the fermented land, and then we'll get more nitty gritty with the process and possibilities of fermenting foods!

Panel includes:
-Tara Whitsit- founder of Fermentation on Wheels, a grassroots organization that provides free food education and inspires people through workshops, literature, & visual arts projects that raise awareness about food sustainability alongside teaching fermentation.

- Brian Shaw- co-owner of Oregon Brineworks- organic, facto-fermented vegetables sourced from regional bounty.

- Jon Westdahl- co-owner of Squirrel and Crow Foods, specializing in hand crafted, locally sourced, vegan, gluten-free, organic and cultured food.

Where: Holocene, located at the corner of SE Morrison and SE 10th in Portland. Please note: Holocene does not have a street sign. They do have a fantastic sound and video system, a full bar, and serve food.

When: The last Tuesday of every month.

5:30-6:30 - Arrive, networking, enjoyment of food and beverages

6:30-8:00 - Speakers(s), Q & A

8:00-8:30 - Additional discussion, networking & enjoyment of food and beverages

InFARMation is always free and open to the public, AND IT IS ALL AGES!
