It's Memorial Day weekend, and for many that means the official start of outdoor fun of every variety. So whether you are loading up for an adventure packed with snacks on the go and meals by the fire pit, planning for the ultimate backyard cookout, or doing your weekly market shopping there are fabulous local,fresh, and seasonal options for all to enjoy. With Unger Farms, Flying Coyote Farm, and Laurel Ridge Winery returning for the season, and over 25 other farms, the market is sure to bursting with the juicy berries, flavorful vegetables, hand raised proteins, plants for the garden, and so much more.

Remember to savor spring while it's here by picking up sugar snap and snow peas for eating by the basket full (check at Winter Green Farm and Deep Roots Farm), leek and garlic scapes (check at Stoneboat Farm and Gales Meadow Farm) for grilling or adding that perfect punch to a spring pesto, asparagus for everything from egg scrambles to bacon wrapped (check at ProFarm Orchards and Maryhill Fruit Co.), and of course all those greens from zesty arugula to mellow and luscious lettuce (check at Sun Gold Farm and Flying Coyote Farm).

If it's strawberries you seek then you'll find your red gems at Happy Harvest Farm, Deep Roots Farm, Unger Farms, Pablo Munoz Farms, and for certified organic look to Winter Green Farm and Sweet Leaf Organic Farm.

Cooking Demonstration with Sara Calderon
Looking for a fresh idea for making use of spring vegetables? This Saturday, the farmers market will feature a cooking demonstration with nutritionist Sara Calderon. She'll be demonstrating two recipes: Sugar Snap Pea Salad with Radishes, Mint, and Ricotta Salata and Carrot and Beet Slaw with Pistachios and Raisins.

The demo will start at 9am, and run until 12 noon. Stop by for a taste and see below for the recipes!
We Support Double Up Food Bucks - SB 727!
Hollywood Farmers Market supports Double Up Food Bucks because we believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, local food from their neighborhood farmers market. We are working with our statewide partners to pass SB 727 in this Oregon legislative session. The bill, if fully funded, would expand the Double Up SNAP incentive program to every farmers market in Oregon, as well as many CSA farms and several rural grocery stores.

Now is a crucial time to reach out to your elected officials to voice your support of SB 727. You can find a sample letter of support here. Double Up is a win for families, farmers, and Oregon’s economy!
SNAP Match Fundraiser Day & Silent Auction June 1st!
During the farmers market on Saturday June 1st, we will be holding our 2nd annual silent auction to raise money for our SNAP Match program!

SNAP Match offers low-income shoppers a match for shopping at the market, meaning SNAP/EBT card users can receive up to an additional $10 every week to be used at the market. These matching funds help make farm direct, fresh, healthy foods affordable to all, while supporting small farmers here in Oregon.

Sugar Snap Pea Salad with Radishes, Mint, and Ricotta Salata
YIELD: 4 servings
TIME: 10 minutes


• ¾ cup sliced radishes
• 1 ¼ cups sugar snap peas, sliced
• 1 cup ricotta salata, crumbled
• 1/3 cup mint leaves, torn
• 1 clove of garlic, minced
• Pinch kosher salt, more to taste
• 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
• 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
• 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
• Freshly ground black pepper to taste

1. In a large bowl, toss together the radishes, peas, ricotta and mint.
2. Using a knife or a mortar and pestle, make a paste of the garlic and salt. Place in a small
bowl and add the lemon juice and balsamic vinegar and stir well to combine. Drizzle in
the olive oil, stirring constantly, and add pepper to taste.
3. Pour dressing over salad and toss well to combine. Taste and add more salt and pepper
if necessary.

Winter Green Farm
Winter Green Farm is a certified organic and biodynamic farm that is not only bringing beautiful greens to the market, but also these delicate baby turnips. Hakurei turnips are great eaten raw, with a sweet and slightly spicy flavor almost like a milder radish, or cooked lightly in stir-fries and soups. They also make great pickles! The greens are also edible, just wash, chop and steam or stir fry.

Laura and Lizzy are new to the Hollywood Farmers Market this season, and are growing over 50 medicinal plants on their 3/4 acre farm in Gresham. They bring to market fresh and dried herbs, salves, tea blends, and more. For those of you with sleep troubles, try their "Dream Team Special", which includes a mugwort dream oil and a sweet dreams tea blend (with valerian, mugwort, and lemon balm).

Seek Out Hard Seltzer
2 Towns Ciderhouse
Branching out from their successful ciders, earlier this year 2 Towns Ciderhouse launched a brand-new line of hard seltzers in four flavors: cucumber + juniper, raspberry + Meyer lemon, key lime + mint, and pineapple + passion fruit. Unlike other hard seltzers, these are crafted entirely from fruit and water, with no refined sugar or artificial flavors. Even the alcohol for the seltzer comes from Pacific Northwest-grown apples (just like their ciders), rather than neutral grain spirits like most hard seltzers.
