Market Updates
We are entering a beautiful period which rides on the edge of both summer and fall. This is the one time of year when you can cool off with slice of melon or warm up with a bowl of winter squash soup, all grown in your local food shed. When you're at a juncture like this, you get to touch on two seasons at the same time. So visit us at the at market this weekend and choose your flavor!

  • Joining us this week: Mic's Mix, More Bees and No Mess Chef. And you can kick your fall cold with plant based medicine from Rise Up Remedies.

  • Off this week: 503 Distilling, 2 Towns Cider, Cranberry Kitchen, Dragonfly Forge, Fire Brew, Leikam Brewery, NOBULL, Bull Run Distillery, Ken & June's Hazelnuts, Freeland Spirits, Stone Barn, Brandyworks, Townshend's Distillery, Westward Whiskey, and Wet Wizard.

Our beloved winter squash has arrived! Time to turn on the oven for roasts or get the pot cooking for a warming stew! Beautiful, sweet and substantial, these guys are a hearty addition to the plate.
Also, Sweet Leaf Farms will have basil, and sauce tomatoes by the box. Preserve your favorite summer flavors so they last the rest of the season!
Desert anyone? Candice grapes are seedless and have a bright complex flavor. This old varietal tastes nothing like what you find in the grocery stores.
Blue Door will be playing live. Coffee and delicious treats will be waiting for you. We hope to see you there!
Due to the rainy forecast for this Sunday, we've again postponed the street mural re-painting to an alternate date - next Sunday, September 22nd. It should be a blast - we'll be re-beautifying the block of our farmers market!

If you're on Facebook, you can RSVP and invite your friends here. See you at the painting!
Cooking Demo with Sara Calderon
Nutritionist Sara Calderon will be back at the market for another delicious cooking demonstration this Saturday! She'll be making Collard Green Rainbow Rolls with a Basil Walnut Pesto.
Pie Contest: Saturday, October 5th!
Bring a delicious pie to the farmers market on Saturday, October 5th to enter into our Pie Contest - a fundraiser for programs at the Hollywood Farmers Market.

To enter, drop off your pie at the HFM information booth by 10am on October 5th. Pies will be judged on appearance, originality and deliciousness, and much feature an ingredient from a Hollywood Farmers Market vendor.

If you're more of an eater than a baker, get your fork ready, because at 10:30 we'll be selling slices of pie for $4, as a fundraiser for our farmers market programs.

Happy baking (and eating)!
InFARMation next Tuesday, September 17th - Labels, Farm Certifications and Marketing: What Does It All Mean?
Do you have a hard time navigating what it actually means to be pasture raised, all natural, certified grassfed, animal welfare approved… and more? Join Friends of Family Farmers for the first of three in a Portland InFARMation Fall Series on ' Becoming an Educated Eater'. This will be a fun and informative night where you’ll hear from a panel of local producers and experts who will break down farm certifications, labels, deceptive marketing and greenwashing. Have a beer (or non-alcoholic beverage), participate in this important conversation, and gain more confidence in the grocery aisle.

WHEN: Tuesday, September 17th – 6:00pm to grab a drink and a slice of pizza; the panel will begin at 6:30pm.

WHERE: The Portland Lagunitas Community Room, 237 NE Broadway. The event is FREE, food and drinks are available for purchase.

The panelists for the evening will include Gis Liszka of Naked Acres Farm!

Fresh Hops
Dancing Light Ranch
Attention brewers and other hops fans! Dancing Light Ranch will have fresh hops at the market this Saturday, including Cascade, Santiam, Willamette, Goldings and Nugget varieties. Even if you don't brew beer, hops make a great addition to a "sleepy-time" tea!

Pastured Pork
Naked Acres Farm
Naked Acres Farm now has pork - including ground pork, sausage meat, bacon and a variety of cuts! Naked Acres' pigs are pasture raised, and spend their time rooting up the pasture, wallowing in the mud and napping. Naked Acres also has whole pastured chickens available, and will have pastured lamb starting next Saturday.

Bob Loblaw Burrito
This tongue-twistingly-named breakfast burrito is a delicious combination of vegan flavors. It features seasoned locally-made tofu, beans, guacamole, potatoes and salsa. Nourishment is always happy to make additions or subtractions - you can get your burrito with collard greens added, or get the burrito contents over corn chips as chilequiles.
