Market Updates
-----------------
Sleep in an extra hour this Saturday because we open at 9AM this week! That's right, October through March the Hollywood Farmers Market will be starting at 9am and running until the usual 1pm. And what a great time to visit us. We still have a spread of hot season crops, but now you can also load up on items that will store for months and you can simply cook when needed. How convenient! Come stock up on hearty foods and say hello!

  • Joining us this week: 2 Towns Cider, 503 Distilling, Bull Run Distillery, Cranberry Kitchen, Dragonfly Forge, More Bees, and No Mess Chef.

  • Off this week: Dancing Light Ranch, Fire Brew, Freeland Spirits, Ken & June's Hazelnuts, Leikam Brewery, Mic's Mix, NOBULL, Rise up Remedies, Stone Barn Brandyworks, Westward Whiskey, Townshend's Distillery, Westward Whiskey, and Wet Wizard. There has been an early frost this year and Herr's Family Farm is out for at least two weeks due to crop loss. Hopefully if the plants bounce back we will see their beautiful flowers again before the season is up. Fingers crossed!

  • Off for the winter: Maryhill Fruit Company and Sage and Sea Farms. Thank you for the delicious fruit and shrubs!

Did you know the corn below makes delicious popcorn? Place this on your hearth for the winter and after it has fully dried (which usually takes many months) toss it in a pan and test it out. Yum!
One of Portland's most beloved vegetables the Brussels sprout is in! The list of different ways to enjoy this tiny cabbage is endless; steamed and roasted, fried with bacon, drizzled with balsamic reduction. Mmmmm!
There are so many varieties of squash at market right now. Chilacayote anyone? This squash is a mainstay in Oaxaca, Mexico and can be eaten raw, cooked in soup or used to make refreshing beverages.
Sandy Saunders Band will be playing live. Coffee and delicious treats will be waiting for you. Come on down!
Board Applications due this Monday October 7th!
 -------------------
Want to make a difference in your community and shape the future of your neighborhood farmers market? Hollywood Farmers Market is looking for new members to join our volunteer board of directors!

As a non-profit organization, HFM relies on our volunteer board to oversee the direction, sustainability, and financial health of the Hollywood and Lloyd Farmers Markets. The deadline for applications is Monday, October 7, 2019 - go to hollywoodfarmersmarket.org/board2020 to learn more and apply. Board members will also have a community booth at the farmers market this Saturday and next, for you to ask questions and learn more.
Pie Contest: Saturday, October 5th!
 -------------------
Bring a delicious pie to the farmers market this Saturday, October 5th to enter into our Pie Contest - a fundraiser for programs at the Hollywood Farmers Market.

To enter, drop off your pie at the HFM information booth by 10am on Saturday. Pies will be judged on appearance, originality and deliciousness, and must feature an ingredient from a Hollywood Farmers Market vendor. You must submit a list of ingredients with your pie.

If you're more of an eater than a baker, get your fork ready, because at 10:30 we'll be selling slices of pie for $4, as a fundraiser for our farmers market programs.

Happy baking (and eating)!
