The McFarland Public Works Building installed solar panels in late November of 2020. About 80-90% of the electricity needs will come through these panels. In colder months with shorter days, there will be some reliance on the electrical utility.

Speaking of sustainability, we're asking the public to reduce salt use when removing ice and snow this winter and join Wisconsin Salt Wise for Wisconsin Salt Awareness Week. Check out all the tools and ways you can reduce the amount of salt you use every winter. C'mon! It's for the future of our lakes, rivers, and streams!

Public Listening Session: Police Chief Recruitment
A Public Listening Session via Zoom will be hosted on January 26th at 7PM to gather input on the upcoming recruitment for the vacant Police Chief position. This is an opportunity for members of the public to participate in this meeting in order to assist in the evaluation of the position. The Village has hired The Riseling Group to conduct the recruitment under the discretion of the Police and Fire Commission. They will be present to moderate this discussion, ask questions of those in attendance, and gather the feedback that is presented to assist in the recruitment process.

The Salt Saver pilot project NOW ACTIVE! The McFarland Utility, in partnership with Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD), now has their pilot program active for Village of McFarland residents. This pilot program hopes to improve water softener efficiency, with an end goal of reducing chloride to the sewer system. These discounts are reimbursed by MMSD in the form of rebates issued by the Village of McFarland. More information can be found on our website www.mcfarland.wi.us/saltsaverpilotproject.
In Parks news, Lewis outdoor rinks are open 9am to 9pm, daily. The shelter will remain closed due to COVID-19. The exterior restroom is open and cleaned daily. We are looking for volunteer help to assist with ice maintenance. This includes snow removal, flooding rinks and overall upkeep of the rink area. Times would be nightly after rinks close (9pm). If interested, please contact Parks Superintendent Sayer Larson. Please stay off rinks when weather deteriorates the ice, i.e. warm temps, rain, or snow.
As of Monday, January 11th, candidates and ballot placement for the Spring Election on April 6th have been finalized.
